THE WHOMPING WILLOW STRUCK ARTEMIS BENNETT STRAIGHT IN THE STOMACH. The lavender-haired girl fell straight on to his back, clutching her stomach in searing pain. There was no doubt going to be a bruise. Soon enough, the Willow has swept Hermione and Harry into the air and then on their backs right next to her.

Artemis watched the blurry branches swaying beautifully against the dusky sky, swishing back softly.

The three friends rose to their feet together as one and as if they could read each other's minds, they darted to the gap in the tree. They all had different strategies as the next branch swooped in.

Hermione ducked that branch and hopped over the next, only to be swept up high in the air by a different branch. Harry didn't duck or hop, but the branch hit him straight on.

Artemis, however, waited until just before the branches were going to hit her before she dropped down on to her side with a powerful kick until she slid straight through the dirt and under the branches. She slid straight into the gap of the tree while her friends continued to fight the branches.

Artemis peered around the surroundings, which she found eerie and scarring. It was a long, snaking tunnel. She lit the tip of long wand aglow to see further down the dark passage. Just as she took a step, Harry came tumbling down the gap and knocked her off like a bowling pin. They both hit the ground hard.

As Artemis tried to get to her feet, Hermione swooped in and fell on top of Harry, knocking both of the down again. They all brushed themselves off and  glanced around.

"Where do you suppose this goes?"Hermione questioned.

"I have a hunch. I just hope I'm wrong..."Harry uttered.

Artemis led her friends down the primitive passageway, ducking the roots that dangle overhead.

"It just ends here,"Artemis whispered.

Confused, Harry and Hermione glance about, then -- as one -- peer up. Artemis followed their gaze and saw what they did. A small opening. Harry reached up and hoisted himself through.

Harry pulled Artemis and Hermione up through the small gap.

Artemis looked about the room, finding the paper peeling from the walls. There were stains, that suspiciously looked like dried blood, blotting the floorboard. The room was scattered was shattered furniture. It didn't take a genius to connect the dots on where they were.

"We're in the Shrieking Shack, aren't we?"Hermione questioned. Just saying it out loud brought a significant feeling of unease to Artemis' chest.

Neither of them answered the bushy-haired girl since something else had caught their attention

The dog prints in the dust on the floor led to the stairs. The ceiling creaked eerily as the three of them dashed to the stairs.

They come out and look down. A wide, shiny stripe cuts through the dusty floor as if something has been dragged to the end of the hallway, where a light seeped from a door.
