ARTEMIS LUPIN SHOOK HER HEAD  AT HIS QUESTION. Ron and Hermione had heard the story before while Harry hadn't.

Artemis and Harry looked at the others. Hermione reached into her beaded bag and pulled out The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

"It's in here,"Hermione said.

"Well, there's no real reason to goon unless one is familiar with the tale. Why don't you read it aloud, Miss...?"Lovegood trailed off.

"Granger,"Hermione answered before opening the book,"Well... all right. There were once three brothers who were traveling along a lonely, winding road at twilight --"

"Midnight. Mum always said midnight,"Ron interrupted, but stopped when Hermione glowered at him,"But twilight's fine. Better actually."

"In time, the brothers reached a river too treacherous to pass..."

As Hermione continued, something really weird happened. Artemis' vision blurred and she felt herself leave that plane of existence. She could hear Hermione's words, but a world had formed around her like she was dreaming.

Artemis glanced down, finding herself almost ghostly in a clean, white silk dress. It was a stark contrast to the darkening sky.

On the horizon, she saw three silhouettes come into view. Three brothers that shared physical similarities. The brothers came across a river, waving their hands with magic.

"But being learned in the magic arts, the three brothers simply waved their wands and made a bridge. They were halfway across it when they found their path blocked by a hooded figure."

A bridge materialized as the memory flowed through her and the three figures begun to cross when a hooded figure appeared.

"It was Death and he felt cheated, for travelers usually drowned int he river. But Death was cunning. He granted each brother a wish for their cleverness. The oldest, who was a combative man, asked for a wand more powerful than any in existence. So Death fashioned one from an elder tree on the banks of the river."

Artemis watched as the so-called Death granted three of them wishes. A wand materialized in his hands, giving it to the first man.

The hooded-figure fashioned a stone next, and it glistened in the scene with great importance. Whatever brought her here, Artemis was sure it had to do with that stone.

"The second brother, who was an arrogant man, asked for the power to recall others from Death. So Death plucked a stone from the river. Finally Death turned to the third brother. A humble man,he asked for something that would make him disappear. And so it was that Death handed over his own Cloak of Invisibility. Death then stepped aside and the brothers went their separate ways..."

The third brother was given a magic cloak, rubbing the fabric between his fingers as he crossed the bridge. It was at this moment that the brothers said their goodbyes.
