Hey everyone. Just wanted to let people know that the underlined, italics section is a flashback scene. There will be some chapters where I will write a flashback point on some matter that is currently being discussed. Those will always be underlined and in italics.
Thanks for reading my story.

.................xxxxxxxxx.................

Delphina Watson, much like her husband, did not possess much patience. But ever since she found out about her condition, she found that she suddenly had an abundance of patience within her. She knew she wouldn't survive, she was resigned to her fate. Yet.....yet, she allowed Michael to take her to meet specialist after specialist to find one cure.

"What do you mean you can't do anything? After all the money I've donated to this damn hospital, you are telling me that you can't save my wife?!" Michael shouted at the doctor.
"My children need her! She's their fucking mother!"

"Mike, it's okay." Seeing that he was about to protest, Delphina cut him off and turned to the doctor, "Well, since nothing can be done, can I leave or am I stuck here till......" She trailed off.

"Ummm, we could prescribe enough medicines for the pain so you could go home. Or I could make arrangements here and - "

" You're coming home!" Mike cut Dr. Brown mid sentence.

"Mike, I think it's better if I go back to my place instead."

"No Delphina. You're coming back home and that's final."

"Excuse me, don't you both live together?" Dr. Brown asked hesitantly.

"Is that any of your bloody business? No, I didn't think so! Now, get out of here and get the paperwork ready. I'm taking her home early tomorrow morning. Clear?" Mike barked at the doctor.

As soon as the man in question left the room, Delphina started laughing. She still remembered the day she told Mike about her illness, he was just this rude to everyone that day as well.

"My lawyer is under strict instructions from my father to not get any divorce papers ready," Delphina said as she entered her husband's cabin.

"Well, luckily, my father isn't controlling my lawyer so he'll have the papers ready in two months. I get the kids, you get visitation rights and you're also looking after them on the weekdays when I am at work. You get the penthouse near Times Square and I keep our home. And just with a simple sign, we're divorced." Mike ended his speech with a grin on his face.

Their marriage was a dead end from the start. It was arranged by their parents and neither got the chance to refuse. And finally after 12 years of living half a life, they both had decided that ending this sham would be better for them and their children in the long run anyway.

"Mike, I just came from the hospital. At first I had gone to the hospital a week ago because I thought I was pregnant - "

"Delphina, if you're pregnant, I swear I'll....." Mike's entire face had paled and the smile was gone.

"No Michael, I'm not pregnant. I have cancer."

"Stop laughing please," Mike demanded softly. "Nothing about this situation is funny Delphi."

"Trust me, I know." Squeezing his arm, Delphina closed her eyes momentarily. "Where are the kids?"

"With Miller of course."

Of course. She should have known that. And while Delphina wasn't Alexis Miller's greatest fan, the woman was still a better choice than the alternatives - which would be her parents, Mike's father, and Delphina's own older sister, Cordelia.

"Mike, you should go check on the kids. I'm certain Mira is still furious at you."

"She'll live," Mike snapped, regretting the phrase immediately.

"Go Michael. I'm not going anywhere till tomorrow. Go, you need to talk to the girls about all these too. And while you're having the talk, please keep Alexis nearby. God knows you have no tact.

Choking out a laugh, Mike said, "Alright Delphi. But I'll come back really early tomorrow morning. Okay?"

"I'm sure you will," Delphi replied sarcastically.

Willing his own tears back Michael left the room. Shaking his head, he wondered how on earth would ever explain to his daughters that despite his best efforts, their mother was still going to die soon.
