"It was one of the worst nights of my life!" Mike groaned as soon as he burst into Alexis's office the next morning.
Alexis glanced up from her work as he made himself comfortable on the sofa in the room. "What happened?"
"Well, Mira had a meltdown, making Ara cry. Then, she snuck over to the Greene's house, which I wasn't even aware of till Garrett himself carried her back home. She had fallen asleep in Jayden's room. Again. Then, I had to comfort Delphina who was upset because the children were upset."
Mike breathed in heavily after his rant while Alexis leaned back in her chair, dropping her pen on her desk.
"I told Mira........about you," Mike said softly.
"Oh. Was that why she had the meltdown?" Alexis asked, feeling slightly guilty.
"No. The yelling happened before that - when we tried to talk to her about school," Mike sighed. "About you......that news, she took quite lightly. In fact, she said that she's glad that you signed those papers."
Alexis blushed and looked away. She didn't think Mira would be so calm about that. She was honestly afraid that Mira would accuse her mother of giving up on them.
"Miller?" Mike asked hesitantly. "Will you please talk to Mira about school? You're the only one who can get her to understand stuff."
Alexis gave him a small smile at that and took a deep breath. "If it's alright with Delphina, I could come over after work today......"
"Thank you," Mike said, gratefully. "While you're discussing school, could you also explain to her how inappropriate it is to go over to a boy's room.......even if the boy is Jayden Greene?"
"They're friends, Michael," Alexis replied, rolling her brown eyes. "She obviously finds some comfort in going there like you do by coming here."
"But..... she's just a child," Mike protested weakly, ignoring Alexis comment about him. "She shouldn't be sneaking off to a boy's house, Miller. I know what teenage boys think - I was one."
Alexis stiffled her laughter and said, "Jay is definitely a much better boy then you were at 13. You were positively dreadful, if I remember correctly. Besides, he rats her out every time. I doubt you have anything to worry about."
"Damn it, Miller - it's the principle of it all!"
"Of course it is!" Alexis giggled. "Don't worry, I'll talk to her. Do you honestly think that I'll ever encourage her to sneak over to a boy's room - even if it is Jay? Give me a little credit, for heaven's sake."
Mike chuckled and closed his eyes, relaxing for the first time since last night.
"Do you still have tomorrow off?" Alexis asked after a while.
"Yes."
"My parents were wondering if you, the children and.......and Delphina could come over to their place for lunch or dinner before Mira goes back to school, if she goes that is. Please?" Alexis blurted out, biting the insides of her cheeks.
Mike sat up straight and looked at her confusedly. "Why?"
"Because, my parents obviously want to bid Mira goodbye if she is leaving in a few days. They probably have tomorrow off and you also have tomorrow off and I can take a break too. So, the day is convenient," Alexis rambled on before stopping herself to catch a breath. "Also, they wanna meet Delphina......"
"You told them about my wife's request, didn't you?" Mike asked, although he knew the answer. Alexis rarely hid things from her parents.
"Yea......"
Mike shook his head slightly and pinched the bridge of his nose. He knew the kids would love to meet the Millers as they hadn't seen them since the day after Christmas. He didn't want to disappoint Alexis's parents, but he was almost sure that Delphina would refuse. "Miller, I can ask, but you know I can't make any promises on Delphina's behalf."
Alexis nodded. She had expected as much.
"That being said," Mike continued. "The kids and I are definitely going. We wouldn't miss a meal made by your mother for anything. Just ask her to make that beef casserole, please."
Alexis laughed playfully and stuck her tounge out at him. "Sure sure. Now, will you please leave and let me work in peace?"
"Yes ma'am," he smiled at her before standing up and leaving her office.
