"Holy Christ - you're gonna say yes!"

As soon as she'd been able to, Alexis had bolted out of Mike's place and ran straight towards Garrett's. The Greenes lived right next door to the Watsons and so it took her all of 95 seconds to enter their house, hug Hailey and blurt out Delphina's request.

Currently, she was laying on the couch, her head on Hailey's lap while Garrett sat facing them in his recliner.

Wincing at Hailey's scream, Alexis asked, "What am I going to say? The woman is dying. Dying! How do I say no to  her last wish?!"

"Lexi, honey, we're talking about living with Michael Watson and co-parenting his children with him! Are you sure you want to do that?" Hailey asked, trying to reason with her oldest friend.

"I don't know," Alexis replied, biting her lips.

Hailey ran a hand through her sleek red hair and said, "This is crazy, Lex! Gary - tell her. Tell her that the entire idea is completely bizarre."

Garrett remained silent as he stared at Alexis with his thoughtful grey eyes.

"Alexis, I know what Drew did to you was horrible, but love, you're hardly an old maid. You've still got time to find someone and start a family of your own," Hailey continued, glaring at her husband for his lack of participation in the conversation at hand.

Sighing, Alexis said, "Hailey, I wasted five years of my life - sixteen, if you count it from the time when I started dating him - on a man who didn't even value my efforts. I'm not interested in finding someone else and risk going through that again."

"Not every man is Drew," Hailey said softly, cursing her older brother in her head.

"Doesn't matter," Alexis replied stubbornly.

"Okay fine. You know what you need? You need to get laid."

"Hailey!" Garret exclaimed at his wife.

"Oh, so now you choose to contribute to this discussion?" Hailey snapped. "Seriously Alexis, go out, have fun and realize that there is more to life than playing nanny to the Watson children."

Alexis bolted upright and stared at her only female friend. "Delphina didn't ask me to be a nanny, Hailey. She asked me to adopt those kids and bloody replace her as their mother! Imagine how hard it must have been for her to ask that of me. Delphina doesn't even like me all that much! Think - what if you were sick? What would you want?"

Hailey's hazel eyes widened as Alexis's words sunk in. "I...... I probably would have asked you to do the same thing."

Alexis squeezed Hailey's arm and turned towards Garrett. "Gary........please say something. Tell me what to do."

"I think you've already made your decision, Lexi."

"Aren't you gonna try and talk me out of it?"

Garrett didn't answer. Instead he got up from his recliner and sat on the couch, hugging his best friend/sister tightly. "Lex, my own parents died when I was only 13 and my brother was 16. Your parents just took us in without a second thought. Granted, our moms were college friends but that didn't mean that they'd have to become foster parents to me and David. So, if Will and Faith had it in them to care for us, then you being their daughter can definitely raise those Watson kids."

"Oh Gary.......," Alexis muttered with tears in her eyes.

"But what Hailey and I want is for you to properly think this through. It's true that those kids adore you but you shouldn't put yourself in a position that you might regret later. Okay?"

Alexis nodded and closed her eyes. Leaning her head on Garrett's shoulder, she took deep calming breaths. Garrett was right - her decision was already made, even if she didn't want to acknowledge it at the moment.
