The next two weeks was a series of setbacks on every front.
There was a delay in testing which created a problem with the contract.
A reporter called and asked to interview Jin and Dae jointly and referred to them several times as a “cute couple”.
The was some data that seemed promising on the breach, but no one had yet been able to put the information together enough to crack the leak.
In the midst of this atmosphere, Dae allowed herself a tiny jolt of triumph late Friday night as she finished the quarterly report with everything balanced and on schedule.
She emailed the report to her father and sighed in relief.
This was such a huge accomplishment given the issues they were facing, but Dae had no one to share it with. She sat planning on where and to what extent she planned to drink tonight when a knock on her door startled her.
Hobi stood there, not bothering to enter her office. She could tell by his face something was wrong.
“SongDae, your father just called. You are to report to his office immediately,” Hobi said quietly.
“He wants me to go out to the estate?” she asked, confused. Why did her father need her to travel out there at the start of the weekend? It was already late.
“No,” Hobi said, coming to take her hand, “he is here, upstairs in his office.”
Hobi watched in concern as Dae's face paled. The old man never came into the office anymore.
He took a deep breath. She needed to be prepared, she had to know the rest.
“Dae, your grandfather and Namjoon are also with him, “ he told her gently.
Dae was trying to process what this meant. She started toward the elevator, then stopped. She turned to look at Hoseok's concerned face, reaching for the binder she knew he would have prepared for her.
“Hobi…..thank you…..for everything. I could not have done this without you,” she turned away from him then, knowing if she met his gaze, she would lose her composure.
She reviewed the facts and figures he had prepared for her all the way to her father's office.
It was his old office in the penthouse of the original building. She refused to give into panic as she arrived at the heavy oak doors.
She stopped and drew a deep breath. At that moment, Jin's face popped into her mind, beautiful and kind and full of faith in her.
She remembered the words he told her when they last parted,” You have always been smarter and more business savvy than I am. You'll know the right thing to do.” She said a quick prayer that he was right.
Drawing a deep breath, she opened the door. All three of the men in her family were inside the dark, masculine office.
Dae had not been in this room in over two years. She straightened her shoulders, refusing to be intimidated.
Her father welcomed her in and she entered to pay her respects to each of them in turn, lingering over her grandfather’s spotted hands. When had he grown so frail? His gaze seemed as steady as ever, although he was clearly worn and weary.
Dae sat after refusing the drink Joon offered. She knew she would need her wits about her for this discussion.
