Chapter 9: A Day in the Life

Caroline's POV:
This morning I woke up before Luke and the kids so I got up and went downstairs to start on breakfast. I decided to make pancakes and bacon. Bobo was the the first to come down. He rubbed his eyes and sat down at the table. "Hey baby boy, you want some bacon?" I asked him. He nodded. I gave him a piece of bacon and some orange juice. Michaela came down next holding Tate's hand. "Hey y'all." They waved and sat down at the table with Bo. "Hope y'all are hungry." I smiled. They all began to eat so I took the opportunity to make some coffee. I heard footsteps coming down the stairs and soon enough Luke came down stairs in Under armour sweatpants and a white undershirt. He looked so cute with his hair all messy from laying in bed. As he sat at the table with the kids I poured him some coffee and brought it over to him.

Pappy walked in and went over to sit on the floor next to Luke. He loves Luke the most and it's so cute. Luke gave him a little piece of bacon and rubbed his head. "Luke stop feeding him from the table." I snapped. "Okay okay sorry." He stayed quiet. "Daddy?" "Yeah princess?" He asked. "Do you think Matt is happy I'm not around him anymore?" She asked. Neither of us were expecting that. "What makes you that?" He asked. "He hasn't called or nothin and we don't talk a lot now." She looked down. "Baby don't worry, I'm sure he still loves you just as much." I told her and wiped a tear.

Luke's POV:
I can't believe she thinks that. I'm gonna call Mike to see what's up with that kid. I never told anyone but I didn't feel like he was telling the whole story. I went into my office so Caroline and the kids wouldn't hear me and called Michael.
Phone Call with Vanilla Mike
M-mike L-luke
M-hello
L-hey man. That kid with you?
M-Umm not right now. Are you sure that kids legit? He seems a little shady and Kelly doesn't like him staying with us..
L-I was gonna ask the same thing. Michaela is like worried about him.
M-man I don't know what to tell you. I mean I think the kid needs a wake up call. He's kinda strange if you ask me
L-let me know when he comes back and tell him to come to my place. This is crazy.
M-will do man but I mean maybe it's better we don't help him. What if he's a thief or something?
L-I hadn't thought of that. I swear if this boy thinks he's pulling a fast one I'll whip his butt into shape.
M-speak of the devil. He just walked in. I'll send him over.
L-alright we'll be waiting at the house.
M-alright buddy, see you soon.
*end of convo*
I hung up the phone and went back into the kitchen with Caroline and the kids. I kissed Caroline and told her to take the kids out since Matt will be here soon. She said okay and helped the kids get ready. Michaela wanted to stay but I told her he'd be here when she got back which might be true but I'm not sure yet. I want to know who I'm dealing with. He seems a little shady.

Matthew's POV:
I haven't seen Michaela in a while and I miss her but I also have to work so it's kind of a give and take situation. I miss her but she's probably mad at me for not calling her like I said I would. When I got back to Mike's place he was getting off the phone and when he did he came over to me. "Luke wants to talk to you about some things over at his house." He told me. "Umm okay." I sighed and rolled my eyes. "That means now." He ordered. "Fine." I replied. "Keep it up and your ass will be out of here." He warned. "Go ahead kick me out. I don't wanna be here anymore anyways." He threw me my duffle bag and grabbed my clothes outta the laundry basket. "Out. Now. Talk back again and I'll fire you before you can say farm tour." Mike warned. I just sighed and left.

I got in the car that I had from the orphanage and drove out to Luke's farm. When I got there I walked up to the front door and knocked. About a minute later Luke opened the door and said come in. I walked in and followed him into what I guess was his office. "What's this all about?" I asked. I wanted to know why I'm here. "What's going on with you boy? Mike said you been actin weird and Michaela was on the verge of tears this morning thinking that you don't love her anymore." He told me sternly. "What are you talking about?" I questioned. "That little girl thought the world of you. Now she thinks you don't want her around anymore because you haven't called, you don't call me and ask about her, you haven't called to spend time with her, the list goes on. What's gotten into you? And don't you dare lie to me." He warned.

I sighed. "I know, I've been distant and I feel like shit knowing that's what she thinks of me now. Can I stay until she gets back?" I asked. I have to fix this. "Fine but you better give her the love she deserves. Man you had her in tears this morning and you weren't even there." He scolded. "Okay, okay I get it. I'll fix it. But can you keep a secret?" I questioned. "Depends on what it is." He said. "I haven't been totally honest but I didn't lie. It's just, I started dating this girl. I just didn't know how to tell Mickey because she might get the wrong idea." I explained. "Well are you guys serious?" He asked. "I don't know it hasn't been that long yet. I mean we've been on a few dates. I've stayed with her before but he didn't do anything.

I don't know if it's gonna last and that's why I didn't tell anyone, in case it doesn't work out." I told him everything now. We continued talking for another hour and he made me tell him almost everything that I hadn't yet. It wasn't much but he wanted to know and he was very persistent about it. Next thing I knew we heard car doors opening. Luke walked out of his office and I followed suit. We waited by the front hallway as the kids and Caroline walked into the house. "Hey guys." I smiled. "Hey Matt." Caroline waved. "Sweetie look who's here, it's Matt." I saw Michaela and waved but she just ran upstairs looking like she was about to cry. I walked up after her and Luke told me which room was hers. I knocked on the door but she yelled to go away. The door was unlocked so I walked in.

"Mickey come here. At least look at me." I begged. "No. Why should I? You don't like me anymore." She sniffled. "Of course I do. I'm here aren't I? Come on kiddo what can I do to make you feel better?" I asked. She continued to cry. "Mattie." She cried. She had her arms out and I picked her up and hugged her really tight. "I love you baby girl. I promise okay?" I kissed her cheek and wiped her tears. She's my real family and I can't forget that.
