Next morning I had woken up early for school with a chocolaty taste in my mouth, the alarm clock on my phone barred the loud noise.
Mom had already left in the crack of dawn and when I got out of my room, dad had already left for work.
There wasn't breakfast on the table, so I reheated leftovers from last night and, within five minutes, had devoured it.
Flash had texted me when I placed my dirty plate in the sink, asking if I needed a ride to school. Some days my babysitter, Zane, would drop me off to school then drive straight to his college classes.
ME: Put the hood thingy on bc it might rain today
ME: it's also cold as fudge right now
FLASH: but its awesome and badass with the hood off
ME: fine it's your car anyways
ME: wait
ME: oopsie nvm it's not yours lolll :)
FLASH: -_-
ME: i'm done eating breakfast, you can come pick me up now
FLASH: be at ur house in one min
We lived in the same neighborhood, our house was only on different streets, and the school was not far away either since it was in the Forest Hills neighborhood.
After taking the box of remaining macarons off the counter, I headed out from the front door with my jacket on along with my backpack; I made sure to turn off all the lights and locked the door.
A car horn honked and I looked up to see Flash with his sunglasses on, the sun hasn't even fully risen yet, and he's already extra as fuck.
"Hey, bro," I greeted him when I got into the front seat of the car, fitting my backpack between my legs and opened the box to offer him some.
Flash accepted one and began to drive. "Hey, your dad is going on that business trip to California, right?"
I hummed. "Yeah, yours too?"
"You guessed it," he pulled to a stop at the red light, "uh, my mom and I are staying, she has her job to do." he didn't seem happy about the fact, I could tell that he'd rather spend Thanksgiving break alone or with friends, maybe throw a party.
"At least one of your parents is staying," I laughed to cover my disappointment, thinking about how mom is also leaving me behind for the business trip.
I took an orange blossom flavored one and fed it to Flash as he drove past a green light. "Do you like it?"
"Yeah, the place is good, but I bet you can make better macarons," he said the word 'macarons' in a French accent.
"I'll make them for you," I offered with a lazy smile.
His eyes lit up happily, and he nodded, Flash loved sweets and anything I make he'd eat, even if it's over-baked cookies or failed brownies.

"Bye!" I smiled and waved to Flash after we entered the school, he was going to his locker while I was going to mine. During the whole ride to school, we chatted on how we were going to spend our Thanksgiving break since attending any family dinner is off the list at this point.
