First day back at school as a sophomore and it honestly didn't feel any different than being a freshman. Flash offered to give me a ride because he got his driver's license during the summer, I declined because Zane already offered to drop me off and then drive to his college classes. It was simpler that way.
In addition to that, I had woken up late, in rush to get ready while Zane was waiting downstairs, if it was Flash giving me a ride then I wouldn't hear the end of it from him.
"Are you going to come after school?" I asked about him babysitting me, now it just seemed like he was getting paid to hang out with me, we were already good friends.
"Not today, I might have to have a mental breakdown in my dorm after classes," he joked, unlocking the car door for me to get out.
"Bye," I shut the car door after I got out.
I waved cheerily to a few familiar faces in the hallways, exchanging a few greetings before arriving at my locker. I opened it and placed in a few novels I plan on reading this semester, it was novels that Zane had recommended.
All dystopian and containing horror, not my favorite genre but for Zane I decided to give the books a try.
The daily Midtown high school news, hosted by Betty Brant and Jason Ionello, they talked about this year's Homecoming dance on the TV screens mounted on the walls. Just like the year before, I planned on going with my friends, no one would ask me anyways, if they do then I would recommend them to my eye doctor.
"Hey, Alice," someone said behind me, I turned around and saw Skylar, she was dressed in the cheerleading uniform. "How's your summer?"
"Good," I answered with a small smile, she smiled back before being dragged away by a friend in the same uniform and pom poms.
I turned back to my locker and closed it, and next to me I saw a LEGO figurine of a Star Wars character on my shoulder, I didn't know much about the franchise but enjoyed it nonetheless. "Hey, Ned." I smiles and took the small figurine from his hands, examining it.
"So you got anything to do after school?" Ned asked.
"Not sure, let's see if I have any homework first in any classes, or else why not?" Zane might not even babysit me today because it's the first day back at school, he might have projects and assignments already being placed on his back. "I might just stay home and wallow in depression and self-hate, I mean- what?"
"What?" Ned laughed and I joined in.
I handed him back his figurine.
"Thanks," he replied. "Anyway, I'mma go ask Peter to help build the LEGO Death Star, do you wanna come? I'll have to assemble a few pieces in my house first, then bring it over to Peter's place."
"You go ahead, I need to report of Mr. Harrington for decathlon, I need a permission pass to go to the practice session," I replied then let out an exasperated sigh of annoyance, "is Peter still going to be on the team? He told me he quit marching band and robotics lab, he never really liked robotics lab now thinking about it."
Ned nodded. "Yeah I know, but he's not quitting decathlon, even if he did then the whole team is going to kill him."
"He'll probably skip nationals," I muttered, knowing it's bound to happen because his sudden Stark Internship from last year, he wasn't able to hang out during the summer, not one day. "Anyway, tell me how the LEGO Death Star turns out, bye."
I walked past the trophies case and see Liz Toomes, a senior and captain of the decathlon this year, Betty Brant, and a few others. "Hey Liz," I smiled at her.
