I wake up on the cold, damp earth, my body aching as if I've been lying here for hours. The towering trees stretch endlessly around me, their thick branches blocking out most of the sky. A faint breeze rustles the leaves, carrying the scent of moss and soil. Everything is unfamiliar.
I sit up, clutching my head. Who am I?

Nothing. My mind is empty—no memories, no name. Just a single letter floats in the void: "M."
I force myself to my feet. I won't find answers just sitting here.
⸻
I walk for what feels like hours. The forest stretches endlessly, the same trees, the same silence. No signs of life, no signs of civilization. Am I truly alone?
The sun begins to set, casting long shadows that stretch like grasping fingers. My legs ache, my stomach twists with hunger. I need to rest.
Then, I spot a cave nestled between two boulders. It isn't much, but it's shelter. I gather dry twigs and strike stones together until a small fire flickers to life. The warmth is comforting, but exhaustion weighs heavily on me. As soon as I lay down, sleep takes me.
⸻
Dreams come in flashes.
A couple sits before me, their faces blurred, their voices warm. A cake with the number 16 glows with flickering candles.
"Make a wish," a man says.
The scene shifts.
I'm in a bathroom, gripping the sink. Pain pulses through me like fire. I gasp and look into the mirror.
Blue markings appear beneath my left eye.
I stumble back. My hands tremble, and then—a glow. A strange, ethereal blue light flickers around my fingers. It crackles like energy, shifting and pulsing.
Another shift.
The couple lies motionless on the floor.
Are they dead?
Did I do this?
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to! I don't know what's happening!" My voice is raw, desperate. My body erupts in light, engulfing me in the same blue glow.
⸻
I jolt awake, gasping. My breath comes in short, panicked bursts. My hands tremble as I clutch them to my chest. No glow. Just darkness and the faint warmth of the fire.
Was it real? A memory? Or just a nightmare?
I stare into the flames, sleep now an impossible thought.
