That's how long I've been wandering through this endless forest, searching for something—anything—that might help me understand who I am. Hunger gnaws at my stomach. The fruit I've found barely keeps me going, and exhaustion drags at my limbs.
And the nightmares... every time I close my eyes, I see them. The couple. The glowing blue light. Their lifeless bodies.
I shake my head. I have to keep moving.
Then—voices.
I freeze. My heart pounds. Am I imagining this?
No. I hear them again, muffled but close. I move toward the sound, pushing through the trees.
Three men stand in a clearing, talking among themselves. Relief crashes over me like a wave.
Finally. People.
I step forward.
"Hey, can you tell me if there's a village nearby?"
They turn. Their eyes rake over me in a way that makes my stomach twist. The initial relief dies in my chest.
"Look, I don't want any trouble, just give me the directions and I'll be on my way."
One of them smirks. "What's a girl like you doing out here all alone?"
"Yeah, the forest can be dangerous," another adds, grinning. "You should stay with us. We'll even give you something to eat."
I force myself to stay calm. "I like being alone. I don't need your food, just directions."
"Hey, don't be like that. Come on, we'll take good care of you."
They step closer.
Instinct kicks in—I back up, but one of them grabs my wrist.
Cold panic grips me. My heartbeat thunders in my ears, drowning out their words. A strange sensation surges through me, starting deep in my core and spreading outward.
No. Not again.
A faint blue glow flickers at the edges of my vision. My breath quickens. I can't lose control. I don't want to hurt them.
I rip my arm away and stagger back. "You really don't want to mess with me. Let me go before someone gets hurt."
They laugh. "Oh yeah? And what are you gonna do, sweetheart?"
My mind races. I need to get out of this without—
"She said leave her alone."
A new voice. Calm, steady.
A boy steps into view. He looks younger than them but stands with confidence, his sharp orange eyes burning with warning.
"Learn to take 'no' for an answer and piss off."
One of the men sneers. "This isn't your business, kid. Walk away before you get hurt."
The boy doesn't flinch. "I think it's better if you perverts leave."
One of them lunges.
With one swift movement, the boy dodges, grabs the attacker's arm, and flips him onto the ground. A solid punch to the face, and he's out cold.
The other two hesitate, muttering to each other before turning and running.
I exhale, my whole body trembling. The power within me settles, fading.
The boy turns to me. "Are you okay?"
I nod slowly. "Yeah... Thanks."
"You really shouldn't be alone out here."
"Didn't have much of a choice."
His gaze sharpens. "What do you mean?"
I don't answer. I don't even know where to start. Instead, I take a step back, wary. He notices and raises his hands in mock surrender.
"Relax, I'm not gonna hurt you." He chuckles. "Promise."
Now that I look at him properly, I notice how unique he is. Purplish hair, striking orange eyes, an easy smile that doesn't quite match his precise movements. He extends a hand.

"You can trust me."
After a moment, I take it.
"This is the part where you tell me your name," he says, grinning.
I hesitate. My name... I can't remember. Just the letter "M."
"You can call me M."
He laughs. "What kind of name is that?"
I frown. "It's all I remember. Take it or leave it."
"Alright, alright. I'm Hikaru." He gestures toward the trees. "I'm heading to the village nearby. You should come with me. I'll buy you ramen, and we can talk."
Ramen. My stomach tightens at the thought of real food.
