Prompt: Write a scene that includes time travel.
Story:
Hermione knocked her daughter's room with full hesitation but she still went inside when she was invited in.
"Rose darling." She walks into her daughter's room whose head is caught up in the "Defence against the Dark Arts" book and smiles half heartedly, knowing she will be changing her own daughter's life forever. Being reminded of her adventures together with Ron and Harry – more importantly, the near life and death ones – kicks her motherly instincts into overdrive, then she remembers that her daughter is all grown up now and is two years away from graduating in Hogwarts. In a way, she wished that Rose would be fine, but then again she takes after her own mother in terms of wits and knowledge, thankfully.
"Mum." Rose slowly closes her book and sits up properly on her bed as her mom sits on the edge with one hand inside her pocket. She immediately noticed it but she didn't bother to ask. "You look worried. What are you worried about?"
Hermione held a steep breath, almost hitched as she gripped what was in her pocket.
"I had to give your birthday gift when your father or your brother was not around."
"Mum, I'm sure, whatever it is, they wouldn't care if you did give it to me in front of them."
"No, Rose. This is an important thing that I am going to give you because I know that you're responsible enough to take care of it. And I wanted you to know that I trust you, completely." Hermione's tone sent an alarming signal to Rose, her poise stiffened as she looked at her mother's hand inside the pocket.
She held her mother's other hand and looked into her eyes and whispered. "Okay mum. What is it?"
Hermione pulled out a golden pocket watch and handed it to Rose, whom which inspected it in every inch for a few seconds until she realized what it was.
"Mum. This is the time turner. Why do you have it?" She was a smart kid after all, Hermione thought.
"This was given to me on the start of my third year at Hogwarts by the smartest professor, mentor and friend that I could ever have. And now it's time to pass it down to you." Hermione smiles, almost with tears in her eyes remembering all the days when Dumbledor was still alive and thinking back to that day when she almost used it to save him.
"Professor Dumbledor right?"
"Yes darling. Now I don't need to remind you that it is forbidden to use magic, especially this kind of magic in front of muggles. Nor should you let your older self see your future self."
"Yes mum. I know how this works. I've read about it before." Rose knew exactly from the moment she saw the time turner. She could do a lot of wondrous things by going back in time with that little trinket. Hermione finally breathed lightly after hearing what her daughter said.
"Well good. Happy birthday darling." They both hugged each other very tightly.
"Thanks mum. I will take good care of it."
