Chapter 7

°°Ranger P.O.V°°

  "Kim I need to speak to Colton." I exhaled. "Yes I know I havent kept in touch. If it wasn't important I wouldn't have called. No I didn't mean to call so late. Kim, Kim, Kim shut up and put Colton on NOW!" My sister can be so exasperating. Yes I should call more often but this was important. I didn't know who else to call.

  "Ranger? What's going on?" Colton said on the other line. "I need some advice I have a sticky situation down here. I don't know how to really explain." I was pacing outside with the phone to my ear. I knew everyone was asleep. So chances of being overheard were slim. "I see what you mean. Does she know for sure that they are still after her?" I stopped to think, if I was a crazy werewolf infatuated with a innocent girl, would I still chase after her?

  "I don't know Colton but I'm not taking any chances. What do I do?" I sounded desperate hell I was desperate. I loved Rebecca and Sophie like they were my own daughters. I watched them both grow up. In a way they were my saviors. They kept me away from the bottle. I was almost dead when Rebecca's parents died and all she had was her grandfather. She brought me back to life and then Sophie came and I had a reason to stay. I owed them everything.

  "I'm coming down with a few of my friends. She is going to have to leave with us. Don't worry I will protect her. She can not stay there. Once she ascends she will attract lots of wolves to the area. It's going to be dangerous even more so after she goes into heat. They won't hesitate to force her." I closed my eyes, this was way over my head. "Ok Colton when is this ascension and how can I protect her until then."

  "There isn't anything you can do. She has 3 days til the full moon. Keep on the lookout for rogues. They can almost smell her heat. They will be watching her. I will make some calls to let the other packs know that I will be in their territory. I'm catching the first flight out. I will call when I land. Please be careful my friend."

  I looked at my phone, he hung up. I need to tell Rebecca and Sophie especially if Sophie was leaving. Thinking back what he said about wolves watching her and us. I remember a couple hands telling me about hearing wolves in the distance. I dismissed it thinking they heard wrong. I only ever seen coyotes in these parts never wolves. I will tell the boys to keep a eye out and make sure they have their shotguns with them at all times.

  I walked back into my little house relieved that I didn't stay in the bunkhouse. I was exhausted, time for some shut eye. Having to explain to Rebecca and Sophie that people were going to be after her even worse than before wasn't going to be a nice conversation. I climbed into bed falling asleep almost instantly.

  "What do you mean I have to go with them? I don't even know these men, Ranger. I can't leave Rebecca, she is the only family I have left." Colton and his men had arrived earlier that morning after I spoken to him. I explained everything to Rebecca, she was upset but understood. Now, Sophie was completely against leaving.

  Colton stood up, "It's not that we want to take you away from your family, it's not safe for anyone after you ascend. They will be slaughtered, they won't be able to protect you and you wont be able to protect yourself." Rebecca hugged Sophie and whispered something in her ear, Sophie nodded. "I will pack my things." Sophie walked upstairs, Rebecca turned to me and gave me a sad smile.

  "You will call me as soon as you land." Rebecca told Sophie before she gave her a hug. Sophie nodded her head then turn towards me. "I'm sorry Sophie, I didn't know what else to do." She gave me a hug, "You did what you had to do to protect us. I love you, Ranger." I sighed, "I love you too, Sophie."

  Rebecca and I stood next to each other as we watched their plane take off. I hugged Rebecca as she started crying. "She will be ok. C'mon let's go home." Rebecca nodded and we walked back to the truck. We were both silent as I drove back home. I was hoping I made the right choice. As we drove up we seen a car in front of the house, I had a bad feeling in my gut.

  "Rebecca stay in the truck. When I get out lock the doors and get in the drivers seat. Here's my phone, send Kim a text as soon as I leave. Tell her I love her and that your on your way." She shook her head, "No, what about Noe? I'm not leaving y'all." Before I could respond I was yanked out of my truck and so was Rebecca. They dragged us into the house where 2 well dressed men stood by the fire place. As soon as they dropped us Rebecca ran to me and I held her.

  "What do you want? We have no money in the house." I knew they weren't robbers, they were too well dressed. One of the men was holding a picture frame of Rebecca and Sophie laughing. "Where is your neice, Sophie? Her father is very sick and wants her to come home." Rebecca and I knew that was a lie. We had already discussed what we would say if they came looking for her. I just hope once they find out they wont kill us...
