Running as fast as I could in a familiar forest. Dodging trees, I look behind me, Victoria is struggling to keep up. I was always the fastest runner in our group. I started slowing down as we reached the lake. She had finally caught up and nudged me playfully and nodded towards a group of bushes. As she hid behind them to shift, I was enjoying the refreshing lake water when I sensed her behind me. "Go shift Sophie, we won't have long to enjoy this peace time."I jogged to the same group of bushes and changed into my bikini. It was one of those rare days where it wasn't cold and swimming would be perfect to pass the time. I walked back to Victoria and the lake feeling off. I didn't like to show my body and felt awkward in Victoria's old bikini. "Sophie relax no one is here but me. And besides you look beautiful, girl you got that body why not show it." She laughed at my discomfort I couldn't do anything but laugh back. "I feel silly Victoria, I'm sure if someone saw me they would die of laughter." She rolled her eyes. She doesn't like it when I down myself.
"It is you who is being silly that thing fits you better than it did me. I don't understand how you can look yourself in the mirror everyday and think you are not beautiful or that your body isn't right." I just ignored her and walked into the chilly lake. It may have been warm out here but this water was anything but warm. I turned to see Victoria slowly stick a toe in the water and shudder shaking her head. "I don't know how you always talk me into going swimming here. It's freezing. HEY! NO SOPHIE STOP, SPLASHING ME!!"
I laughed as she jumped back to get out of reach. I went further in the lake and decided to just dive the rest of the way. The cold water took my breath away making my chest tighten so I resurfaced to catch my breath. I looked towards the shore and seen Victoria talking to a group of guys from our pack. Well more like flirting the way she was laughing and playing with her hair.
Then my eyes locked on her brother he didn't have a shirt on and it was as if my heart skipped a beat. He winked at me before he growled at the group of guys talking to Victoria. They all scattered as if she had cooties. "Emilio what the hell that wasn't funny." I couldn't help but laugh he was always watching out for his baby sister. "No Emilio put me down NO! AHHHH." Emilio just threw Victoria in the lake, laughing as she made a big splash. Victoria splashed water on him annoyed. "Oooh that water is cold. Hope you don't turn into a popsicle out there Sophie"
I smiled at the way my name slipped out of his mouth. "It's already warming up why don't you join us Emiliano?" I blushed, hoping I was to far away for him to see it. I noticed some of the guys had started a bon fire and had brought a cooler. Guess this is their party spot for tonight. "Emilio, my parents are the only ones that call me by my full name. And it's usually after I've done something wrong. Maybe next time I will join in. How about you come out and join us by the fire." I looked back to the fire and noticed Victoria was already by it with a drink in her hand. "Yea Sophie join us." Victoria looked at me with pleading eyes.
I bit my lip as I walked out of the lake hugging myself and rubbing my arms trying to cover myself discretely. I rubbed my arms as if I was cold when Emilio walked beside me to the fire pit. Victoria smiled at me with amusement dancing in her eyes. She was enjoying my discomfort, that wench! She knew about my secret crush and was taunting me.
Emilio handed me a drink but as I looked into his eyes they turned black. The fire was casting shadows around his face distorting his features. I looked around to see if anyone else saw what I saw but we were alone, everyone was gone. He grabbed my neck, "You are mine Sophie. I told you not to let him mark you." I heard Rebecca's screams, she was in pain then silence. "No, Emilio please." He squeezed harder, smirking at me.
I couldn't breathe, I scratched at his hand trying anything to make him release me. He threw me on the ground, I tried to run but couldn't catch my breath. He looked down at me laughing, I was frozen in fear, hearing more screams they were all around me. Accusing me of killing them all. I shook my head trying to explain but no words came out. Tears streaming down my face.
"Mi tesoro, Sophie? Sophie?"
