It's been six months since I got on one knee amongst friends and Lauren's family to propose to her. Six months since that day she giddily said yes to me and made me feel even more on top of the universe by letting me slip that ring onto her finger.
Not much has changed since then if we're talking about the basics. I'm still friends with all my friends, Lauren's still friends with all her friends. Depp's healthy and still in good hands and Lauren and I are still in apartment 5B.
If we're talking about things that changed, well, I became busier with my job and Lauren and I have been getting into disagreements ever so often. The smallest things are starting to piss us off.
"I don't think we should create the seating arrangements until we're certain wether my family can make it out or not," I said after we were heading back from our seventh meeting with our wedding planner. Our wedding was arranged to be in four months. "Didn't I tell you to call your mom?" Lauren questioned.
"Well, yeah and I did. My mum can make it but I don't know about my dad."
"Can't he call off in advance? We can leave open seats for them just in case."
"He lives all the way in England, Lauren. Even if he can call off, there can be flight delays even cancellations," I said stopping at the stop light.
"Okay, I honestly think that you are over analyzing everything. That's why they should leave more than a few days earlier for situations like that."
"You make everything out to be easy because you actually have your family here and you don't have to stress about this traveling," I said hitting the gas.
"Seriously? I'm just giving you logical solutions so there are no future problems. You know what? Just drive faster before I'm late to my dress fitting."
I remember when Lauren found the dress a month ago, she called me up when she knew I was in the middle of a meeting to excitedly tell me.
"Right away Queen Lauren. Do you want me to go past the speed limit which would result in us getting pulled over and you being late?" Lauren rolled her eyes and looked out the window.
"You're such a smart ass, I hope you know that."
"Thanks," I said tapping my fingers on the steering wheel.
After I dropped Lauren off, I took Depp and we headed to Niall and Harry's place.
"Where's the bride to be?" he asked going through a grocery bag and placing the items in the cabinets. "At a dress fitting," I answered petting Depp.
"Want a beer?" he asked.
"Sure, I'll take one." Niall handed me one and sat across from me.
"In just four months you're going to be a married man.." Niall reinformed me. I stared off into space and nodded my head. "I remember when we used to all five go out searching for women to bring back to our rooms in our uni days, and now your settled down. You found you're winner."
"I did." I tapped on my beer bottle still staring off into space.
LAUREN'S POINT OF VIEW:
"Everything alright?" Normani asked. I was standing in front the full length mirror, my blank expression staring back at me. My wedding dress still fit like a glove and it still made my bridsemaids swoon, and if my mother and grandma made it out today they'd feel the same. "Yeah, everythings great.." I wasn't even convincing myself. Zayn and I had been arguing all the time, almost daily about the smallest things that at one point in time didn't even bother us. "If you say so. I'm going to slip out of this dress, I have a doctors meeting at 5."Normani walked away and that left me standing on that small podium alone again. I smoothed my hands down my dress and sighed. "I think I need a size down, this dress is practically slipping off," Dinah said holding her red dress up by the top. "Then tell Martha, not me." Dinah held her hand up and made a face.
"I know you're not getting a little attitude. Are you okay?" I nodded and Dinah still stood there looking at my expression that fell to a frown quick. "No.. I'm not okay.."
I sat down on the podium and Dinah joined me. "Well, what's wrong?"
"I don't.. I don't know," I shrugged.
"You're not getting cold feet are you? Usually it's the guys.. but Zayn would never." Dinah soothingly rubbed my back and I layed my head in the palms of my hands trying to make sense of everything I was feeling.
"What's going on over here?" Camila asked walking over with her maid of honor dress draped in her hand. "You okay?" she asked sitting on the other side of me. "She doesn't know," Dinah told her.
It wasn't soon after until I was joined by Normani and Ally. "See, I knew something was wrong.. call it best friends intuition," Normani said.
I finally moved my hands and I had tears in my eyes. "Lauren," Ally pouted rubbing my arm.
"I think I'm just.. really overwhelmed by all of this and I think Zayn is too, and I know we want to marry each other and we're stable to do so, but we're stressed out between the wedding and work and I think we're just taking it out on each other," I explained. Camila wiped my tear away and layed her head on my shoulder. "It's an overwhelming process Lauren. It wasn't easy when Troy and I got married, you all know I was bridezilla."
"How could we forget.." Dinah said under her breath. That made me laugh a little.
"Just think once this hectic storm passes, you'll be Mrs. Malik," Camila said.
I looked at my ring for a moment and then nodded. "You're right.. we just need to remain calm for four more months and it will all be so worth it.."
"So worth it," Ally rubbed my knee that was covered by the lace fabric of my dress.
"Now, let's go take these dresses off and wipe those tears.. people are looking at us like we're crazy," Normani pointed out. I turned my head and saw that Martha was sending concerned glances my way. I shrugged. "Let them stare."
