I'm not going to lie when I say this, but I was hesitant about going over to Zim's table. Sure there were empty seats, so I didn't have to worry about being accepted into the table or whatever. But the problem was that this guy was cute yet he intimidated me. I don't know why but something about the green boy interested me. I want to be his friend.
Walking with my tray gripped in my hands, I made eye contact with Zim. Even though I was anxious, I did not look away. I gave him a warm smile. Zim did not return it, which kinda made me lose confidence.
"Hi there! Do you mind if I sit with you?" I gleam at Zim. All he did was look at me surprisingly. Zim then cleared his throat. "Very well human, you may eat with Zim." Zim says, accepting my presence. I cheered in the inside. I can't believe it actually worked! Now I have to communicate with him. This is the hard part.
"My name's (Y/N), I'm new here. Nice to meet you, Zim was it?" I introduced myself to Zim. Of course I already knew what his name was. Zim didn't know who I was and why I'm even talking to him.
"Yes it is I, the great and almighty Zim!" He shouted and preceded to stand on the seat and praise himself. I couldn't help but be slightly embarrassed. It was weird because none of the students surrounding us seemed even slightly alert. It's like they've seen Zim do this kinda of stuff before. I looked at him with wide eyes and a awkward smile. "O-Oh my bad. I'm just (Y/N)." I laughed at my own joke. Zim didn't seem to understand.
"So why are you over here, human?" Zim asked me. I couldn't help but cock my head as he called me "human."
"Erm, I don't know. I just saw you sitting here and, well, yeah." I stumbled, punching myself eternally at my stuttering. "Not many humans want to sit with me, you know." Zim says, almost like he is suspicious of me. I couldn't help but become slightly nervous. Maybe this was not the greatest idea.I glanced over at Dib, to whom had a glare on his face. You can tell by the look on his face that Dib was jealous. I smiled and gave him a thumbs up. Dib gave me a pout and looked away to talk to Gaz. I felt guilty.
I saw Zim stare at me, and he didn't seem happy. "Why are you friends with the Dib?" Zim asked me. I shrugged, twiddling with my fingers. "I dunno, Dib's nice to me and he's cool." I almost felt like I was glorifying Dib and his reputation. Today was the first time I saw Dib in years. Now it's like we're frenemies or something. All because I was eating lunch with a guy who has green skin. "I see." Zim replies.
After a few moments of eating in silence, okay maybe me eating in silence, I watched Zim as he stared at my food. He seemed disgusted. "How do you eat that school filth?" Zim cringes, causing me to become startled. "Well, I'm hungry, I guess." I replied, kinda unsure how to.
I felt self-conscious. Zim must think I'm fat or something. We didn't talk again for a few moments. All he did was drink the milk aside from him, which so happened to belong to me. "Hey!" I snapped at Zim. He closed his eyes, obviously not caring.
After swallowing the milk, he eyed the carton. "This milk liquid seems to be the only thing that Zim can tolerate." Zim says, examining the dairy product. "Give Zim more!" Zim demanded at me, which made me shook. "Uh, no. Can't you go get it?" I argued to him. Zim glared at me. "Yes, but if I do," Zim points at Dib, to whom was rubbing his palms together in a villainous fashion, "The Dib will attack Zim." Zim admitted to me. "The Dib?" I asked angrily as I turned around to see Dib. As soon as our eyes locked, he went back to eating his food quickly, hoping that I wouldn't suspect a thing.
I sighed as I turned around. Zim gave me a pouted-look. I felt my heart skip a beat. The way his lips moved when he pouts was so sweet. "Don't let Dib intimidate you, Zim. Just cause he says things doesn't mean he will." I said, trying to clear any anxiety Zim may have felt. "You don't understand, (Y/N)-Human. The Dib-Human can be quite gruesome to Zim! No one else seems to...uh..." Zim trails off looking for words. I think I knew what he meant. "Care?" I asked, filling in the equation. Zim looked me in my eyes. His purple hues seem to glisten. "Yes."
Then the bell rung. It was time to go back to class. I didn't want lunch to be over. I wanted to keep talking to Zim and hopefully become more acquainted. As I walked out of the cafeteria, I heard running footsteps behind me. I was expecting it to be Dib but it was actually Zim. He looked astonished. "How do you know how I feel, (Y/N)-Human?" It looked like Zim was begging for an answer. "Did you read my mind?" He asked, now alarmed by me. I simply giggled at him, which caused him to become lost. "I've been there before, Zim. I know how it feels too." I truthfully admitted to Zim. He looked down at his black boots. Zim then look like he started to ponder on something. "What's up?" I asked him.
"Perhaps I could use you, Human." Zim thought. "Use me?" I replied, blushing due to the many ways that meant. "Maybe you could be friends with Zim." He asserted to me. I began to feel my face become entirely heated. "Okay!" I cheered, causing him to smirk. "Yes Human, feel honored to be accepted by Zim!" He thunders in the hall. Again, no one noticed. "Alright, alright." I said, hoping he calm down. "Maybe Zim," I started to feel hot again, "we could hang out sometime after school." I suggested to Zim. He seem to be in thought. Zim hummed to himself, thinking a little too hard about this. "Very well, you will attend this 'hanging-out' at my ba-house after school." He ordered me. I gave him a toothy smile. "You will also bring sweet foods and delicious liquids when you come." Zim added in. "Okay, I'll see what I can do."
We were then late to class. The bell rung again. Me and Zim looked at each other, terrified of Mrs. Bitters and her wrath of tardy students. We rushed into the classroom. Thankfully she wasn't in there yet. Dib was in his seat, looking quite annoyed when me and Zim walked in together. I laughed with Zim, thankful that Mrs. Bitters wasn't here yet. "Thanks to my amazing timing skills, we were not late to class." Zim boasted, even though we were late.
I swear I hope that me and Zim would become friends and grow a close bond. I haven't had that in a long time. I want something new. We both feel like the outcast here. It's nice knowing that someone who you think is so different from you could be like the most relatable person ever. Now I can't wait for going over to Zim's house!
