"Where are you guys going? Am I coming with?" Sonic sat on the kitchen counter, watching as Tom and Maddie semi-scrambled around with filling a cooler and packing bags of items and clothes.

"Of course," Maddie smiled. "Why wouldn't you? You know we take you everywh—"

"Mostly," interrupted Tom before he sipped his water.

"—mostly everywhere."

"Okay, so where we going? Ozzie's coming, too, right?" Sonic slid down carefully and observed the bags on the floor in a meager pile.

"Yes, he is," she answered.

"And where is a surprise," Tom grinned.

"How long will we be gone? You guys sure got alotta stuff."

"Seven days."

"Seven days!? What, a vacation?"

"Shh!" Tom vigorously waved his hand at the child. "Don't ruin it for yourself!"

"Oh boy, a vacation!" Sonic fist-pumped the air. "What should I bring?"

"Just your adorable self," Maddie gushed. "Tom and I are taking care of the rest."

"Is there something I can do to help?" He looked to Pretzel Lady and then to Donut Lord.

"There is something." Donut Lord tapped his chin, arms partially folded across his chest. "Think you can handle it?"

"Shoot me."

"No," Tom shook his head at the reminder of how the two first met with a snort. "Never again."

Sonic deadpanned, "You know that's not what I meant."

Tom chuckled, "I need you to lock the garage door for me."

"Okay, cool," and in a fluorescent flash, Sonic was gone and back, smiling proudly. "Wanna see me do it again?"

"No, no. I trust you."

"What else?"

"Hm, did you lock the window in your room?"

Sonic zipped to and fro. "Now I did."

"Good. I think that's everything. Unless you beg to differ?"

Sonic tapped his chin in thought, eyes on the ceiling. "I don't think so. Except to lock the doors when we leave, obviously."

"That's something. Go lock—"

Shoom! Zip!

"—the back door."

"Way ahead of ya, Donut Lord," Sonic saluted the sheriff.

"I hope you know the car ride is quite long."

"How long? The same when we went to San Francisco?"
