"A baby?"

"Yes, Wade is having a baby!"

"But Wade's a man!"

Rolling his eyes, Tom huffed, driving to the general hospital. He was barely awake in the wee hours of the morning, having received a call from his best friend that his baby would soon be delivered, and asked his sheriff if he and Sonic (Wade refers to the hedgehog as Sonny) could come and see it.

"Pfft, that's not what I meant. Wade's wife is having the baby."

"Then you should say it like that," Sonic adjusted his cowboy hat in the mirror aside his window, grinning at his reflection though it was difficult to see in the dark. His fluffy face split into a yawn, before continuing, "Why's she having a baby at three in the morning?"

"Sonic, babies can come whenever they feel like it. In the middle of eating, at night, in the morning, at home, at work..."

"Kinda rude," he sniffed, still sleepy, but nevertheless was excited for Wade. "Can they come when you're in the shower? Or when you're tryna pee?"

"Whenever. Sometimes, you can get lucky and have it when you're not doing anything important."

"How come you know so much about babies? Do you and Maddie have a baby?"

Tom chuckled, "You're our baby." He pulled into the parking lot and circled it for a space.

"N-No! I meant a human one!" Sonic's peachy cheeks turned a deep crimson, bashfully twiddling his thumbs. He knew it to be true, but he always blushed when Tom or Maddie called him so. It warmed his heart, yet he couldn't accept those feelings for they were overwhelming at times because of how happy it made him.

"No, Maddie and I don't have a human baby. We did take parenting classes, though, and we helped Rachel with Jojo."

"Were you guys too busy?"

"Sorta. And when we finally settled down, Maddie got upset because she thought she's too old to have kids." He then grinned as he pulled into a parking space and turned off the truck. "But now we have you, so there's nothing to worry about."

"Do-Donut Lord!" Sonic bashfully held his face, turning away with a nervous chuckle.

"Come, let's go."

"It's baby time!" Sonic shouted, but then covered his mouth, having forgotten it was the very early morning. "Sorry!" he whispered, getting out of the car and rushing over to hold Tom's hand.

They ventured in the hospital and Tom spoke to a woman at a desk, Sonic at his side fidgeting with his oversized shirt of a disguise. Tom tapped him for his attention and they walked down a hall, approaching an elevator.

"Wade's upstairs?" Sonic asked while waiting for the elevator to ding and open. "I can get there in two seconds! Don't be lame, Tom, let's take the stairs."

"No, we're taking the elevator." Tom wasn't entirely sure if hospitals had stairs; he hardly went, so it was vague to him.
