"Since when do you take naps?"

"Since the radio said there was going to be a meteor shower."

Maddie chuckled at the conversation she heard from behind her, coming from her husband and child. She flipped the grilled cheese she was cooking and hummed, walking over to the fridge. She tossed a glance to the hedgehog seated at the round table, holding his head in his hands and still looking sleepy. She retrieved the half gallon of milk and set it out on the counter for later use, and then returned tending to the sandwich.

"Did you know Sonic took naps?" Tom hugged his wife from behind, which startled her and earned him a loud gasp.

Maddie matter-of-factly announced, "He takes them often, actually," she and Tom met eyes so she could raise her brows, "but today he took a nap. Slept like a baby for three hours."

"In our bed, I assume?" Tom was grinning, not surprised; Sonic slept in their bed more than his own, and he had an awesome race car.

"Where else?" She giggled as Tom's cold lips grazed her neck, running up her jawline to kiss her cheek. "If you think him napping in general is surprising, I'll have you know his 'naps' last about thirty minutes before he takes off again. As I said, today, he took a nap."

"Thirty minutes or three hours doesn't matter. Sonic napping? Don't know her." He released his wife from the hug, but pecked her cheek again, and grabbed the bottle of beer he sat down by the sink. He leaned his hip against the counter, cracking off the metal pop-top with a bottle opener, and he tilted his head. "So, Sonic, since you apparently take naps, how was it?"

"Warm," Sonic happily moaned, folding his arms on the tabletop to lie his head down upon them. "Your bed smells like flowers and sugar."

"That—" Maddie had a spatula in one hand, prepared to scoop up the grilled sandwich, and her other hand extended to jab a bantering finger at her husband— "would be Donut Lord."

Donut Lord squinted his eyes in confusion. "I smell like sugar?" He looked to Sonic and then his wife with cheeks tinted red in chagrin. "That's a good thing, right?"

"Yes!" Maddie laughed and plopped the sandwich on a vermillion glass plate. "I'm only teasing." She gave him a kiss on the lips before setting the plate before her child, tapping his ears to gather his attention.

Slowly, Sonic's head rose from his arms and he smiled, proclaiming, "Goody," quietly to himself and repositioned his seating arrangement to sit on his ankles to properly reach the table. As Maddie poured him a glass of milk, he took a (overly large) bite of his dinner, and Tom could practically see the cheese sliding down Sonic's throat.

"Don't eat too fast," reminded Tom firmly. "And chew your food, you're an animal."

Sonic made a face, but he listened, taking his time to eat his sandwich. While he ate, he listened to the couple talk about each other's day. He was caught off-guard when they included him in the conversation, and he was unsure (and nervous) on what to say.

Nevertheless, dinner went well, and afterwards, he thanked and hugged Maddie, disappearing off to the patio after checking the time.
