I walked back to the car where my father was standing. His arms crossed and eyes hard. "Dad." I started. When I stopped he wrapped me in a hug. His tight squeeze was comforting.
"You are not a mistake. You're my daughter." He whisppered. He let go and waved a hand at Luke to come. "Mr.Hemmings, have my daughter back by ten and don't hurt her."
"What? What's going on?" I asked.
Luke kissed me on the cheek and said, "Happy Birthday." He pulled out a box and handed it to me.
"Oh my god, I forgot about my own birthday!" I took the box and gently opened it. Inside sat a necklace with a metal heart, I picked it up and saw the words engraved on it; You are mine.xo-Luke
"Luke." I breathed out, "It's beautiful. Now where are we going?" I placed the necklace back in the box and eyed him.
He grasped my wrist and dragged me to his car which was parked from what seemed like a mile. He ushered me in and hopped after. He started the car and was a speed demon down the road.
He stopped at a baseball feild. I got out and he covered my face, blinding me. We stopped and he uncupped my face, the band Secondhand Serenade stood on a stage and a picnic was set up.
"H-how did you get them to play?" I asked siting down in the checkerborad cloth.
"I know someone. Now dig in!" Hotdogs and hamburgers were sitting in a basket with Coke and chips. I took a hotdog and spread ketchup and mustard on it.
I take a big hunk of meat off and chew, with my hand in front my mouth hiding the mess. I set the hotdog down and take a sip of my coke.
Luke finished his food within a few bites and chugged down his coke. He wiped away the extra crumbs. He bit at his lip ring and I couldn't help but blush at him.
"What?" He asked still biting his lip.
"Nothing." I said finishing off my food. He eyed me and then smiled. Luke stood up slowly and walked over to me putting his hand out.
He helped me up and whistled. Crowds of people jumped up from the back of the seats and each held a paper. All of it put together said 'Happy Birthday!'
"You went all out didn't you?" I asked elbowing him. He laighed aand wrapped an arm around my waist.
"I'm not done yet. Kayla, you can come out now!" He yelled. A figure stepped put from behind the stage and looked at me. The eyes seemed to burn through mine.
She started running towards me and when she reached where I was at she wrapped me in a hug. I felt tear drops fall onto my shirt.
"I'm so so sorry, Lauren. I shouldn't have don't the things I had done." She stiffled a sob.
I hugged her back and whispered, "It's okay I forgive you." She let go and held out a box. I took it and slowly opened the top. Inside was a CD that read, 'Lauren's Mix Of Songs'
"Thank you, Kayla." I put the top back on and set down near the basket. "Now, lets get this started!" I yelled as loud as I could. Everyone cheered and clapped and Secondhand Serenade started playing.
