He awoke to a handwritten letter on personalized stationary outlined in gold and stamped closed with a monogramed seal. His mother, jogging into his room in her workout gear and headphones blasting exercise music, tossed the letter on his bed and retreated to her routine. His brain as still fuzzy from lack of sleep. He climbed into bed around three in the morning, sneaking in the back door so his parents wouldn't hear. In the past, he might have spent the night at Charlotte's, but just before he fell asleep, Sabine came to mind and that drove him to his own bed.

Grayson rolled out of bed and opened the curtains and blinds. Another day in sunny paradise. The air smelled especially salty today. Maybe he could convince Charlotte to go to the beach with him.

From the thickness of the card stock and the extravagance of the gold melted seal, Grayson thought it might be a personal invitation to Georgia's bridal shower or even the wedding. He didn't really know how those things worked. Instead, it was just Charlotte being her usual grandiose self.

G - just got your ridiculously fancy invite. Is this real?

It was definitely real.

"Gray!" Three girls - Raven, Becca, and Thea - ran through the front door and tackled Grayson with hearty hugs. His arms encircled them all.

"Hey, guys, welcome!"

"Dude, what the hell!" Thea slapped him on the shoulder, filliping her dark hair over her shoulder. Her skin glittered with shimmery makeup. "How come you didn't let us know freaking Charlotte Thorpe was back?"

He shrugged, straightening his navy blue floral Hawaiian shirt. "Came up out of the blue. I had no idea."

"I didn't think you guys still like...talked," Raven pointed out, obviously glancing around the party for the glimpse of the effervescent host.

"We didn't," he yelled over the beach vibe music, reverberating throughout the entire house. Turns out, Charlotte's parents were staying in the city for some sort of fundraiser, so she devised a last minute plan to throw a fabulous summer kick-off party with all of Georgia's luau engagement party decorations.

One of his buddies, a guy on the soccer team, slapped Grayson on the shoulder in greeting as he zoomed through the house looking for his extra hot girlfriend. He was a bit possessive considering she was way out of his league and the relationship was still new. Grayson waved to him but he had already moved on.
