Chapter Fourteen - You're Joking

Luz's P.O.V

"Go ahead and sit down, food's almost done." Eda pointed to the dining table and motioned for us to sit, which I did. Zander smiled and sat right next to me, grabbing my hand and rubbing it softly. This always calmed me down in any situation and he knew that.

"Thanks for having me over for supper with you guys." Zander was one of the sweetest people I've ever met, and he's so proper and genuine. I really do hope that Eda likes him.

"Well, I thought it was about time I met you since you're dating my daughter." Eda gave him a sweet yet stern smile, showing that if he hurt me it would be the end of the world for him. He wasn't going to hurt me though.

"Yeah, I didn't go to school today and I wanted to see you so...I thought why not have you over?" Zander smiled sweetly and gave me a kiss on my forehead, making my smile grow. He really was amazing.

Me and Zander sat at the table, waiting for Eda to finish cooking as we talked about random things. Eda was mostly listening to the two of us, probably seeing how he acted with me and making sure it was appropriate. I'm glad to have a protective mom like her, even if she gets a little too overprotective. She mostly gets overprotective just because my real mom told her to keep me safe, and that's all she asked for.

"Alright you love birds, here's food." Eda set down the plates, causing my stomach to growl in hunger. I didn't realize how hungry I was until now. Seeing the meatloaf sitting on my plate made my mouth water, she makes the best meatloaf in the entire world.

"Wow, this is amazing Eda!" Zander dove right into the food and chewed on it like he hadn't eaten in days. He said that his parents don't care about him that much, does that mean they don't feed him enough?

"Well thank you, Zander, I'm glad you like it." I started eating the food as Zander and Eda conversed some more, from the sounds of it, Eda liked him. Let's just hope it stays that way.

"So Zander, what do you see for yourself in the future?" Zander finished chewing his food before answering, giving a sweet smile. His hand was still holding mine under the table.

"I have a couple passions like singing and photography. So I would love to do something with those two things." He hasn't told me much about what he loves to do. Most of our conversations are about me and what I love to do, he hasn't told me much about him.

"I think both of those are really cool." I smile, showing him that I would support either of those things. Eda stopped eating to look at me, her eyes held concern and I'm not exactly sure why she was concerned about what I just said but I ignored it.

"Yeah, both of your things are really cool too. Voice acting, drawer, or even a photographer as well. You'd be good at any of those honestly." I smiled at Zander's kind words, feeling my stomach do flips.

"Luz loves music so you ought to sing something for her sometime." Eda kept an eye on Zander, studying his every move carefully. I don't know if she was just being cautious or if she was starting to not like him.

"Already ahead of you miss, I am actually writing a song just for her." Tears sprung to my eyes as he said that, making my heart swell, he's writing a song just for me. How can he get any better?

"Aw, how sweet of you." Her voice was sweet but there was something lying underneath, almost like she was about to kill my boyfriend. Was she seeing something that I wasn't?

The rest of dinner was quiet with a couple conversations here and there about how good the meal was. I could tell that Eda was on edge about something and I wanted to know exactly why she was feeling this way. I thought Zander was saying sweet things, nice things, but maybe there's something she knows that I don't.
