Kylie ~'Why don't you get something to eat Ky, you can't let this eat you up' Carter told me once again as I sat in the waiting room with my head leaning on him as he comforted me
'No Carter, I can't do that, this is all my fault' I blamed myself as I was constantly staring at the white stainless floors
'How many times do I have to tell you that this is not your fault-'
'Carter this is my case' I told him abruptly
'And so what the fuck if it was your case, you did nothing to hurt her in any harm whatsoever, I'm telling you right now she's going to be okay' Carter told me as he lowered his head to mine as I stretched my head to give him a peck 'now go and get something to eat-'
I rose up from my position, standing up at my full height giving him puppy eyes 'can you come with me?' I was waiting for him 'and I won't take no for an answer'
'I know that' he stood up taking me hand
Walking to the cafeteria, I saw Luke coming out from the entrance which I find oddly weird, making me stop.
'Go and get me a water bottle and whatever else you get I need to sort this out' I ushered Carter to the Cafe as my eyes remained on Luke as he caught a glimpse of me
'What are you doing here?' I stormed over to him as he showed me a smile
'I got worried and I wanted to see if Issabella was okay' he looked like he genuinely meant his reason for concern to be in the hospital
'Hmm......after you stood there and let her struggle with her breathing, I didn't think you would even remember her name' I chuckled sarcastically
'Well it starts to hit hard when you got a daughter at home and the same thing could happen to her' his comment threw me off as I cocked my head back
'Hmm......random question, daughter-' he nodded his head 'say if it was your son, you knew your son was a good child and never got himself with the police or anything like that- oh I don't know, you find out he was actually shot by the police for......I don't know, no reason, what would you do?'
'That's crazy, the police would never shoot a person or my son for no reason, there had to be a reason' he screwed his face weirdly at my questioning
Awh, a classic response from a privileged dumbass white male.
'You remember Kayden?' I forced a fake smile to him
'Kayden? I don't know a Kayden' he laughed
'Oh you know him......' I stared right in his eyes as he got serious 'remember the case that you failed but won unfortunately. It was 2007 when you claimed that um.......what's his name Hakeem, Kayden's best friend shot him, the police said' I put more emphases at the end of my sentence 'when actually, there's a high possibility that the police killed Kayden'
He damn well remembered what I was talking about, his gulping out of fear as I watched his Adam Apple move up and down.
'For your information, I conquered that case very well and I was given what the documents said and the evidence that I was provided with' he tried to smart me out of the situation 'I was just doing my job' he shrugged his shoulders before he walked past me
'Doing you job, my brother died because y'all couldn't do the job that you claimed to have done properly' he stopped in his tracks and turned around to look at me in shock
'Kayden is your brother?' He asked
'Yes, wondering why you looked so god damn familiar' I told him 'you walking up in here thinking you're being the Good Samaritan when I know damn well that you're going to twist this case and make sure that Issabella isn't gonna get the justice she deserves, just like you did to my brother-'
'I'm doing the case' he told me calmly
'What?' I stopped myself to take the time to process what he just said to me
'I said I'm not taking the case' he repeated himself once again 'I can't stand there and try to negotiate with the judge on trying to make the punishment easy for the predators when we all know who the victim is'
'Hmm I'm glad you fucking know' I told him releasing a dry a chuckle
'Why are you laughing?' He asked me
'It hits when you got a daughter at home and the same very thing could happen to her, that's why you backed out' I told him 'but it didn't hit you when a mother lost her only son, when a sister lost her only brother. It was all fun and games for you and your white asses to drink up all the victory of wrongly accusing Hakeem for killing my brother and the police offices involved got off scotch free-'
'Look Kylie the case is closed-'
'Uh Uh' I waved my finger at him 'I'm re opening that case and giving the justice my brother needs making damn well that this case will end the way it was supposed to 13 years ago properly with the police who shot Kayden stripped of his job and in prison while you could loose your position in the law enforcement' I threatened him
'Ky' I heard Carter's voice call me name as a warm smile formed on my face
'Took you long-' I walked over to him 'let's go and see if we're able to see Issabella'
So I thought this was a bomb ass chapter but it's really a fill in if you ask me.
I hope you enjoy and don't forget to comment and vote😊
