"one mississippi. two mississippi. three mississippi. four. five," i opened my eyes. "now what?"
"lay the pregnancy test flat. i'll set the timer." judy said.
i was in the bathroom stall, sitting on the toilet after taking my pregnancy test.
"are you gonna tell the dad?" tati asked.
i sighed, "there is no dad, because there is no baby."
tati sighed, "what i meant to say was-"
"i know. can we talk about something else?" i asked. "i heard there's a new boba place that's gonna open downtown. we should go when it opens."
"it's probably someone embarrassing." tati whispered to judy, but i still heard their conversation.
"hunter?" judy said.
"it's not alec."
"i know." judy silently scoffed.
i rubbed my lips together, "how much longer?"
"a minute." judy answered.
"then i can go on with my life and today will be another ordinary day." i smiled.
"unless it's positive." judy whispered.
"shh. can you imagine? i mean, what would people think?" tati whispered back.
oh my god, what would people think?
"if that happened to me, i would die. if my parents didn't kill me first." judy said. i was growing more nervous now. my whole future depended on this moment right now.
"a-are you done with your history project?" i stammered. "we don't present until next week." tati answered.
"yeah, me and jungkook are on wednesday. i'm kinda lucky, i was paired with one of the smart kids."
"twenty seconds, any results?" tati asked.
i cleared my throat, "i'm not checking until the time's up."
"fifteen." tati said.
"he basically did the whole report. i just have to type up the slides." i added, i needed to get my mind off this moment right now.
"ten." tati said nervously.
"nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two..." i said quickly as i picked up the test, i had to find out now.
i inhaled sharply as i looked at it, waiting a few more seconds for a final result to show.
when the result showed, i exited the bathroom stall, tati and judy looked at me, waiting for me to say something.
"so? are we planning a baby shower?" tati chuckled.
"most definitely not." i smiled.
tati exhaled in relief, "ah, i knew everything would be okay."
they both walked up me and hugged me tightly, "we should get to class." judy smiled.
tati nodded in agreement as her and judy picked up their backpacks.
"you guys go, i just need a minute." i smiled.
tati smiled, "okay, well, congrats on not being pregnant."
they both walked out the bathroom, as soon as the door closed, i exhaled deeply.
my hands were shaking as i looked at the pregnancy test again.
which was positive.
the tears broke through as i looked at the two lines that showed clearly. i smiled to myself, was i happy? was i sad?
i honestly didn't know what to feel right now. i kept wiping the tears that fell down my cheeks.
i'm pregnant. i'm really pregnant.
