Music has always been apart of my life since High School, especially when I met Todd. Todd opened music to me when I was going through some tough times and I used it as an escape. When my mom died, it was just me and my older half-brother. I was 14 when our mom died. Our dads were never there so we only had each other. Lucky for me, my brother was 25 at the time so he was old enough to look after me and keep us in a house because he had a very good job that paid very well.
Since I'm now 23 I can live in my own place, but instead, I live with Todd, Zane, and Matt and it's the best thing ever. Sometimes when I wake up before anyone else I'll go into Todd's little music room and play the keyboard just to clear my mind, like this morning. Overlooking the neighborhood with a coffee next to me. I let my fingers glide along the keys as I started playing A Thousand Miles.
"You're getting better"
"Geez christ, don't creep up on me like that, Todd"
"Sorry, I didn't want to disturb you"
"That's alright"
"Clearing your head again?"
"Yeah. It's getting closer to the anniversary"
"How about we do something special like bake the cookies she used to make for us or cook her favorite meal you always did"
"I like that. Want to help?"
"Bake or cook?"
"Both"
"Ok. we'll bake cookies and then will make dinner for everyone tonight"
"Sounds good to me"
I turned my head back to the keyboard and continued the song. Todd joined in a few seconds after and helped continue the song. I felt my cheeks blush as our hands glided past each other. I've always felt a connection with Todd in a more than friends way but have never said anything because of how good our friendship was. As we finished playing the song, Todd pulled me into the side of him for a hug and kissed the top of my head.
"Thanks for being there for me, Todd"
"Anytime"
We looked at each other and we both leaned in and soon our lips touched and it's like the world had stopped and there was only us two. When we pulled away I smiled.
"My mom would be very happy that just happened"
"I know. She always asked to make sure that you found someone who made you happy"
"Maybe that someone could be you"
"I can make that work"
We kissed again but pulled away when we heard Zane's voice echo through the house. I smiled at Todd again before leaving the room to start baking. Safe to say Todd and I started dating. Thanks to music for connecting us.
