*Reese*
This morning, Jay wasn't at breakfast. The full moon was still a couple days off. This behavior seemed unusual for her. Using my free period I checked a few of her favorite hiding places. The Owlery and Potions classroom were both empty.
The library was mostly deserted; no one was ready for classes to start back up. I checked the whole library before noticing someone at a back table. She was trying to hide behind a book but I recognized that black hair.
"Jay." I said. She sighed and put the book down.
"Reese." She acknowledged.
"Did you really think you could hide from me?" I gave a small smirk. She tried to return it. "What's going on?" I sat across from her.
"It's nothing. Full moon and all." She shrugged.
"You know I see right through you. It's no use lying."
"It's not important."
"Jay. You're my best friend. You can tell me anything. I already know your deepest darkest secret, what could me worse?" Jay gave a dark chuckle. "You know I'm right."
"I don't know. This could be worse news." She mumbled looking down.
"Jay." I begged. "If you don't tell me you know I won't stop until I figure it out myself."
She gave a small smile knowing I most definitely wouldn't let it rest. She heaved a sigh and gave in. "I'll tell you, but you must promise it won't change your view of me." She bit her lip.
"Jay, your a Slytherin, Malfoy, and werewolf. What could possible make me change my view of you if I haven't already?"
She sighed. "Well, I'm not actually a Malfoy." She began I tried to hide my shock, forcing my jaw to not drop open. Avoiding eye contact, she continued. "Lucius and Narsissa are my Aunt and Uncle. Draco's my cousin. I've known this for a couple years. I've always wondered who my mother was. I only had two options: Bellatrix Lestrange or Andromeda Tonks. Since I always held different opinions than the Malfoys, I thought I had to be Andromeda's daughter. She was disowned by the Blacks because she loved a muggleborn and had opposing views to them. Over Christmas, I found pictures of me as a baby being held by my mother." She hesitated, I could almost tell where this was going so I remained silent. "Bellatrix is my mother." She said quietly.
I stared at her a moment and she hesitantly made eye contact. Once the shock wore off I shook my head. "That won't change my view of you. You're your own person."
She smiled slightly. "That's not the worse part. I got into an argument with the Malfoys, insisting they tell me everything they've been hiding from me. I'm not just Bellatrix's daughter. I'm... His... daughter." She cringed then took a deep breath. "I was born to be His heir or something, a weapon for his next war. They think he'll make a return."
I was silent. Jay was the daughter to two of the most evil people in the Wizarding world. Yet she was nothing like them. "But he won't return." I said. "It doesn't matter who your parents are. You're Jaycee. You're your own person."
She smiled, glad to see I wasn't too phased by this. "Thanks Reese." She said. "Meanwhile, I overheard Klins telling her friends she's a Lestrange. As if."
"You think she's lying?"
"Why else? She wants to sound like some powerful pureblood Slytherin. She found a necklace and journal and decided to claim to be a Lestrange. I'm the real Lestrange. That necklace belongs to me."
"What are you going to do?"
"Get what belongs to me. She has no right to claim to be a Lestrange. She's a snobbish liar." She said, slamming the book in front of her, shut. "Could you help me get the necklace?" She asked.
"Me? I'm not a Slytherin. Isn't it in her dorm room?"
"Yes. But I am a Slytherin and I can get you in." She smirked. We had a plan formulated by lunch time. This weekend was the next quidditch match, that'd be the best time to get me into the Slytherin common room unnoticed.
Fred and George approached us when we entered the Great Hall. "Care to join us at the Gryffindor table?" George asked.
"We always know you enjoy being a rebel, Slythers." Fred added.
"No thanks." She tried to give them a smile before heading to the Slytherin table.
Their faces showed their disappointment. "What did you say to her, Reese?" Fred teased.
"Nothing." I laughed as we sat down. My mind was preoccupied with all the new information and the idea of sneaking into the Slytherin common room. Not only that, but sneaking into Clarissa's room to steal something that was rightfully Jay's. If she ever found out, she'd have it out for me.
*Clarissa*
After lunch, I rushed back to my dorm room for the moon stone and stuffed it into my pocket. There were a few minutes to kill before my next class and Jay had to come into the common room at some point.
After several minutes I realized maybe she wasn't. Potions was about to start and Snape hated tardy students so I left the common room. I fiddled with the stone in my pocket until I ran into someone outside of potions. The stone suddenly felt warm. I looked up. Jaycee.
"Look where you're going, Klins." She rolled her eyes. She began walking away. I pulled the stone out and saw the glow fading. I wasn't imagining it.
As I watched Diggory throughout the class, I wondered if she knew. She had grown close to Jaycee, maybe they confided in each other. I thought of ways to get her to fess up then I realized if she knew, Draco might too.
Class was dismissed and I stopped Diggory before she left. "I know you're friends with Jaycee. Just know, whatever her secret is, I'll figure it out."
"I don't know what you're talking about. Jay has nothing to hide." She said, trying to keep her face straight.
I chuckled. "You can try to protect her all you want. I'll expose you both." Leaving her with a concerned expression, I returned to my common room.
*Reese*
Potions finally ended. The class was turning into my own personal nightmare thanks to a couple Slytherins I had to share the class with. Clarissa seemed extra quiet today and she seemed to stare into my soul the entire class period. It was concerning when she said she'd find out Jay's secret. How did she even know Jay had a secret to hide? Draco wouldn't tell her would he?
It was hard to concentrate as I entered the common room. Could I find a way to ask Draco if he said anything? Hinted at it even?
I saw Fred and George talking in secret in the corner of the common room.
"What are you two planning now?" I asked.
"Oh, hello Reese." Fred said.
"We were just thinking up ways to make a friend of ours feel better." George explained.
"By friend George means our dear friend Jaycee. In fact, you could probably help us out with this."
I smiled and thought back to my last conversation with her. She definitely wasn't in a good mood. "That sounds like a good idea. She could really use the cheering up." I agreed. "What were you thinking of doing?"
"Well, third years get to take a trip to Hogsmead. We thought maybe we could sneak you and Jaycee in with us."
"Don't you need a permission slip for that?"
"Yes. But we have a secret way to get in." They smirked. "Meet us down at the Quidditch pitch before dinner this Thursday. Bring Jay and we'll let her in on the secret." George said, winking. I had a feeling this was more than just making Jay feel better. Someone had a crush.
I agreed to meet them this weekend. Hopefully the next full moon wouldn't be too rough on Jaycee. She could use this.
