"winnie and evie, the power couple version of friends!"
______
1934
DESPITE her having an awful start to her day, Winnie was doing a lot better and was in a very good mood. TheWhite girl walked as quickly as she could out of the school so that she wasn't late to meet Evie, she couldn't keep her waiting because this could be one of her only shot at a girl friend. Her previous teacher had held the class back a few minutes because a few of the boys who sat at the back of the class were being disruptive and so the teacher decided to keep everyone back.
As she reached the door to the outside world, Winnie took in a deep breath of the fresh air, her chest expanding. She looked around outside, looking for a platinum blonde head of hair. After a few moments before her eyes caught sight of her. Winnie ascended down the stairs quickly and made her way towards the Bell girl. When Evie noticed Winnie, she gave her a wide smile and waved.
"Hey, Winnie!" Evie squealed, grabbing the girl's arm, "Gosh, for a moment there I didn't think you were coming."
"I'm sorry, Mrs Hill kept the whole class back, I didn't mean to keep you waiting," the White girl apologised. Winnie smiled back at the Bell girl as Evie looped her arm through Winnie's.
Evelyn waved her free hand as if to say 'it's alright' and began to lead Winnie off the school grounds, their arms still looped together. It had only been a few minutes and the White girl was already having a lot of fun. "Okay, so I thought that we could go hang out at my house? We'll get to know each other and we can do each other's make-up and hair, is that okay with you?"
Winnie nodded her head, "Yes that's totally fine with me." In the corner of her eye, Winnie noticed Steve and Bucky looking at her; she gave the two boys a smile and a wave, which they returned, before turning back and smiling away with Evelyn.
Both of the boys were happy for Winnie that she had been able to make a friend outside of their small group but however hard they tried to not think about it, they were slightly worried that the White girl would leave them for popularity. Steve and Bucky both knew that they were overthinking all of this and they both knew that Winnie isn't the type of girl to do that but it didn't stop them from worrying.
"So how long have you been living in Brooklyn?" Evie asked as they walked along the pavement, the hot sunny summer hitting their backs.
Winnie scrunched her eyes trying to remember, "I think a few months? We moved here in April I think so I'd say about four-five months." The Bell girl nodded her head, understanding. "Have you lived in Brooklyn your whole life?"
