1943

Winnie rushed around the small apartment of her friend - well acquaintances - in a rush in a frantic to get ready. She had completely forgotten about tonight and that she was supposed to get ready with Steve's date.

When she arrived at the house, Bonnie - her friend - answered the door with a stern and disappointed look on her face. The Bonnie girl expressed how annoyed she was at Winnie for being late, yapping the poor girl's ears off. After about ten minutes, Bonnie decided that she had given Winnie a good enough talking to her and thought it would be a good idea to start getting ready.

Bonnie was a very pretty lady. She had blonde hair that just reached her shoulders and had hazel eyes that had little sparkles of blue in them. She was slightly taller than Winnie, about a head taller than the girl. Winnie could only hope that she wouldn't be like the other girls that only cared about looks; she didn't think she could take another one of them.

"So has Bucky popped the question yet?" the Bonnie girl asked, leaning into the mirror to apply some mascara.

The question made Winnie choke on air. She hadn't even been thinking about marriage yet, she was happy with how things were doing right now. Yes, they had been dating for over six years but what was the rush? They had the rest of their lives to think about stuff like this.

"Uh, no, he hasn't," Winnie answered, stuttering at the start. Bonnie made a 'huh' noise that made the White girl furrow her brow and turn to look at her. "What's with the 'huh' noise?"

Bonnie shook her head and shrugged, "Oh it's nothing, just shocking that you two weren't married or at least engaged yet. I mean you have been dating for a good few years now. I just assumed."

"Well, you assumed wrong. We're happy with how things are right now," the brunette girl snapped, making Bonnie widen her eyes in shock. Winnie felt bad at snapping at her like that but she hated when people assumed things that they had no idea about.

Neither of them spoke for the rest of the time when they were at Bonnie's, getting ready in silence. Mostly because Winnie had begun to get annoyed at the girl. Dear god how was she supposed to deal with the rest of the night with her.

"I don't see what the problem is." Bucky and Steve walked side-by-side as they descended down the steps. They both had their hands in their pockets as they walked. Steve had head hanging low whilst Bucky had his up high, searching for a familiar brunette girl. "You're about to be the last eligible man in New York. You know there are three and a half million women here?"
