"we're outnumbered!"

______

1943

Bucky grabbed Winnie's hand and pulled her up from the wooden plank that they were using as a seat, Dugan falling close behind. They all rushed and opened up the small bag that was on strapped to their clothes, desperate to get their masks in before the gas reached them.

As training and whilst at the camp, everyone had to go through many drills on having to put on ur gas mask. Sometimes the drills would be in the morning, sometimes in the middle of training or hell, they'd even be during the night when everyone was sleeping or in bed. Winnie hated the night drill..

During the drills, they had to wake up in an orderly fashion and put their gas masks on without panicking. God how Winnie wished this was all just a drill but sadly it wasn't.

Unlike how well she did during the drills to keep calm, Winnie fumbled with hers a little bit, anxiety running throughout her body. She mumbled curse words under her breath as she dropped the mask making her panic.

She bent down to pick it up and as she looked back up, she could see the green chemicals racing its way towards them. This sent her into even more panic than before. Her breathing began to go ragged from her panicking as she fumbled with the straps.

She could hear the men who were unlucky and not quick enough to get their ones on, scream in pain as the burning sensation reached their lungs. It made her feel like she was going to throw up, their screaming sending chills down her spine.

Winnie felt Bucky's hands grab ahold of the mask, unhooking it for her. He already had his mask on and if they weren't in a serious situation, the White girl would make a comment on how scary and horrifying he looked but now was not the time.

The White girl watched the gas get closer and closer, snaking its way around every nook and cranny to get any of the hopeless souls to torture and then kill. She let out a small scream in fear, she didn't want to die. She wanted to live out her life with Bucky, the two of them growing old together, not die in the battlegrounds of Italy.

As the gas got barely a few inches away from her, Winnie felt the rubber of the mask rub against her skin, covering her face and protecting her lungs. The green, killing gas surrounded her body as well and Bucky's.

The Barnes boy pulled Winnie into him, giving her a tight hug. He had been panicking a lot less than Winnie so it wasn't as hard for him to get his mask on. However, he worried when he saw that she didn't have her mask on and was nowhere near having it on.
