(TW:  Loneliness, & I think that's it)

I know it's April but idc we're going back to December/January lol

"11:38..." Remus thought out loud. It was the night of December 31, and Remus was sitting on the couch. Alone. He was spending New Years Eve watching the movie adaptation of "The Murder of Rodger Ackroyd." He had started out watching his favorite serial killer documentary, but quickly lost interest and switched over to this movie. He had even gotten himself a fresh stick of nontoxic deodorant. Remus was trying so hard to have a nice New Years, but it was nearly impossible.

It had been a week since Logan had left on a two week business trip. He had promised Remus that they'd talk everyday, but it wasn't enough. Remus missed him. Badly. Suddenly, everything started to remind him of Logan. Crofters in the fridge, books on the bookshelf, Logan's constellation blanket. Remus had even started sleeping in the living room because sleeping in the bedroom reminded him of the cuddles he was missing.

He glanced at his phone that was resting on the coffee table.

"If I called him, would he pick up?" Remus thought. He was at war with himself over whether or not he should call Logan. The ultimate decision that he made was that he didn't want to bother him. Besides, he went to bed at 10:00 every night, so he probably wasn't even awake.

Remus checked the clock again. 11:43...

"I guess it's jammies time..." Remus thought before walking to the bedroom. He changed into his octopus onesie. He loved the way his octopus onesie made him feel. He felt warm and secure. The same way Logan made him feel...

Remus quickly tried to push those thoughts out of his head and hurried back into the living room. He wrapped himself in a green blanket and laid on the couch. Remus turned the volume on the television down so he might have a chance of falling asleep. He left a lamp on and snuggled up on the couch, trying to clear him mind and let himself drift to sleep.

But he couldn't.

No matter how hard he tried, Remus couldn't force himself to settle his mind. Nothing was working. He tossed and turned for a little while before looking back at the clock again. 11:58... the year would change in two minutes... but that was the only thing that would be changing. Remus would still be alone and restless in the empty house. He tugged his blanket up to bury his face in it.

Just as Remus was using his blanket to wipe at his teary eyes, he thought he heard a ringing sound. He lifted his head and looked towards the front door. It sounded like someone rang the doorbell. Remus glanced at the clock. He had to be imagining things. Who the hell would be at the front door at 11:59 at night. Remus lazily got up and trudged to the door. He opened the door and his eyes immediately widened in shock.

"Salutations, Remus." Logan said. He was still dressed in his usual work attire, his suitcase on the ground next to him. Remus was completely dumbfounded. Was he hallucinating? Dreaming? It was impossible for Logan to be here! He still had a week left of his work trip.

"L-Logan?" Remus stuttered. He looked Logan up and down, still trying to figure out if he was real. "H-How are you-?"

"I wanted to surprise you. I finished what I needed to get done, so they let me come home early."

"Are you f***ing serious!" Remus half-asked-half-squealed. He tackled Logan into a hug, knocking him off balance. Logan stumbled back trying his best to keep them from falling over. Once he regained his balance he held Remus tightly, trying to make up for the lost week.

"I am very serious. Clearly." Logan gestured to his necktie. Remus laughed and hugged Logan even tighter.

"I can't believe you're here!" Remus exclaimed, smiling from ear to ear. He felt warm and secure in Logan's arms. Everything felt... right. Logan glanced at his wristwatch and placed a hand on Remus's cheek.

"It's midnight." He said, smiling softly. Remus looked up at Logan, who nodded. In one swift movement, Remus pulled Logan by his shirt collar into a deep kiss. His year started way, WAY, better than he thought it would.
