"I assume you've been fully briefed, Becker" James Lester told me the new head of security, as we walked down the main corridor of the ARC.
"Yes sir".
"Your job" he continues like I haven't spoken "is to tighten up security in every area of the ARC" nodding to a passing lab worker "as you know we've had many unfortunate incidents recently".
"I'm aware of that" I replied as I glanced into of the labs, after noticing Lester hasn't stopped I have to quicken my pace just to keep up with him.
"Are you also aware of the work we do here?"
I smirked slightly "you detect anomalies and flight dinosaurs when it is necessary".
Lester shot me a glance before continuing "correct, you don't seem surprised".
My smirked widened at his response and before I could help my self "well I have extensive experience in dinosaur handling, sir" in the most sarcastic tone I could "I assume that's why I was picked for the job".
Just as we come to the door to the centre of activity of the ARC, he faced me and arched one of his precious eye-brows "I take that some kind of joke?" While crossing his arms behind his back.
"Yes sir" I replied doing the same with my arms.
"A lot of people are sceptical when they first join us, Becker, they don't stay that way for long" He went to move but stopped after a though "in future I'll do the jokes".
"Yes sir, sorry sir" I followed him into the centre of the ARC where there are a few desks and a very big and complicated looking computer without even turning to look at me, in a very bored tone, Lester ignored my previous apologies.
"You'll be dealing with a temperamental team of amateurs who happen to be very good at what they do" turning to look me in the eye "your job is to stop them from getting themselves killed. No matter what they say, you and your men will stick to them like glue" Lester emphasise on the word Stick"we cannot have another Stephen Heart" Lester sends a glance to the employees within hearing distance.
"But there is a personal job I want you to do keep on eye on Acacia Lykaious, she's young but that doesn't stop her from being reckless, she was close to Heart, she and Cutter were him when he got killed and she hasn't been the same since is that clear" he told me.
"Crystal sir" I said clearly, now confusion on this girl.
He moved to head to his office but he only made five steps before spinning on his heel "by the way Professor Cutter won't like you and he will go out his way to make your job as difficult as possible, try not to take it personally".
Holding my reply, watching him go into his office and all I can wonder is what I have I gotten myself into.
