Be More Chill, Hamilton, and Dear Even Hansen x Reader

Evan x reader-Don't judge a book by its cover

I know this is a bit similar to my Michael x Reader with the whole popular thing, but I need to redeem myself after that, cuz I thing that's one of the worst things I've ever written. Aight, here ya go! 

Everyone scurried out of my way, as usual. Apparently, Because I was popular, everyone was scared of me. My other popular friends—Chloe, Brooke, Jake, Rich, Angelica, and Eliza—all glared at the people who dared looked their direction. Even though they may act mean sometimes doesn't mean they're always jerks. Of course, stereotypes plague me and my friends because of those cliche high school movies and books where the popular people were mythic b- 

"AH! I'm s-sorry!" 

Never mind. 

"You BETTER be sorry! I know you have that picture of me and Chloe, and I know YOU posted it!" Jake Dillinger yelled. 

I walked over to the crowd of Students, screaming at Jake to kick his butt. Now, I know this kid. He's in my world history class, but he never talks. This kid is Evan Hansen, a super shy kid who doesn't seem to have friends and keeps his nose out of everyone's business, especially popular kid drama. There is no way he has this oh-so-important picture of Jake and Chloe. 

"I d-don't have i-it! P-please...let m-me go..." Evan stuttered, have whispering the last part. 

"DON'T LIE TO ME! Jenna Rolling said she saw you editing an image that made it look like Chloe was giving me a blow-" 

I couldn't hear the rest of Jakes angry words because the students gathered around us were getting impatient, yelling at him to punch him already. I saw Chloe cover her face with her hands, while Brooke tried comforting. Rich was cheering on Jake, of course, while Angelica and Eliza awkwardly checked their phones. You may have expected the popular people to be rearing Jake on, but mostly they were just confused and worried. 

Like me. 

Except something burned inside of me when Jake dragged the kid and pinned him against the locker by his collar and punched him square in the nose. 

"AH!" Evan screamed, curling in a ball while dropping to the floor. Blood leaked out of his nose. I caught a glimpse of Jake's face. A mix of anger and guilt filled his eyes. 

"What are you waiting for?" 

"Kick his butt!" 

"Are you a wimp, Dillinger?" 

That last comment from the crowd made Jake full on angry, and he immediately pulled the kid up again and pulled back his fist, aiming for his stomach. 

Something seized my body, and I suddenly found myself pushing through the crowd and stepping in front of Evan. 

"NO! JAKE...don't..." I cried, squeaking the last part out. Jake's eyes widened in surprise, but it was too late. His fist hit my gut at full blast. I doubled over, groaning in pain. I felt like throwing up and blacking out. Fortunately, I choked back the vile liquid and felt myself fade into darkness. 

"SOMEBODY GET THE NURSE!" 

"Y/n is hurt guys." 

"How could you, Jake?" 

"Was she ACTUALLY willing to get hurt for that wimp Evan?" 

Voices rang in my head. I heard Jake mutter "I'm sorry" about a thousand times. I felt someone wrap their arms around me. At first I thought it was Jake or my other friends, but these arms were gentle. This person was hugging me like I was fragile glass. I heard them crying softly, murmuring "You didn't have to do that," "I'm sorry," and "Thank you, y/n." It was Evan. Funny, even though we have never spoke before, he was still more comforting than my other friends.

A couple of minutes later, a few of my friends lifted me up and helped me to the nurse. Even though I got hurt, I still think that taking that blow was the best decision of my life. 

I think this one was better. I think we should cut the popular people some slack. I had fun writing this, and I'm glad this book has been getting more views.
