The image moves with odd sounds. A planet comes into closer view and moves ever closer to one place on the surface.
A set of large lands surrounded by waters. Somewhat close to a very large land with mountains and that white stuff called [snow] at one end.
"We like to think our history is mostly benevolent. That it is rare to invade a place and completely dispossess the people that live there.
Simply killing them.
Shipping them away.
Forcing them to work in very unlikable places.
When you consider the long arc of history. Those things are not rare.
We mention this because sometimes geography makes those things less achievable.
Look at these large 'water surrounded' lands next to the [European] continent.
Because it would take large sturdy [water craft] to move troops and then to move any native population. Complete eradication was not workable.
Large numbers of warriors might land and create enclaves the support the kings of their lands. They might kill many and create a new social order.
In some ways, it is a meager acknowledgement. How the most implacable troops would often spare children.
Making an invasion in one era, into a blending of cultures.
The barrier of water created a place where old traditions and stories could live.
It happened in this place and was remembered. Who can say if the story is true? There is just one piece of [paper] to support it.
A ruling family sent armed troops to the land to secure loyalty. A young man of the [royal] family was there.
Local troops surrounded him and he signed a document.
A document that provided a concept. There is nothing to say it was at all the first. It was important because it kept a new tradition in these lands.
'Kings were equal to all others, regarding crimes.'
Kings could not kill and steal and force marriages.
It was a tradition that blended well in this large land.
When people believe their lives are fair, they will work together through some very hard times."
