                               *BEEP BEEP BEEP*

The sound of my alarm rang in my ears, I jolted up and scanned my surroundings.

I was safe in bed, I looked next to me to find Chrissy sound asleep. I reached over her to set my alarm off, she woke up when I accidentally touched her side.

''Morning.''

She groaned and yawned widely.

''Why are you on me?''

I felt blood rush to my cheeks as I cleared my throat.

''The alarm rang, I wanted to switch it off.''

She laughed at me and sat up, I shifted off of her and felt very embarrassed.

''You could have just walked around the bed.''

I never thought of that, she handed me my phone and I swiped 'dismiss' on my alarm notification.

She stretched out and got out of bed.

I watched her walk off to my bathroom when my phone rang in my hands, something was wrong. Angelo never calls before ten o'clock.

''Hello?''

His voice screamed through the phone.

''I've been trying to call you since last night! Didn't you see the missed calls and text messages!?''

I jumped out of bed and ran to my closet to get dressed.

''I'm sorry I never heard my phone. I am getting dressed as we speak, what is going on.''

I pulled my shirt over my head and Angelo started to speak without taking a single breath.

''I was looking for batteries in my dad's study when I came across some of his work papers. I know I should have told you earlier but when I tell people what my dad does for a living they trust me less. My dad is a cop, Mel. The papers that I found was an arrest warrant with your dad's name on it. I did some more digging and they found the body, the body in the crate and they somehow found something that connects your dad to the death of a girl named Alexandra Fields.''

I stood in front of my closet frozen, completely paralyzed from head to toe.

''Mel, Mel? Do you think your dad has anything to do with this?''

Chrissy came walking back into the room.

''Any news from...''

She saw me frozen and bleak, she ran over to me and grabbed my phone from me and shouted through the phone.

''Hello? Who is this?''

I heard a loud bang coming from downstairs and adrenalin kicked in. I grabbed a shirt and ran downstairs while putting my shirt on.

''Dad? Dad!?''

When I got downstairs my dad was already handcuffed.

''No, no please don't take him! Don't take my dad!''

I ran to him and hugged his as tight as I could, tears ran down my face and every memory of my dad that I have ever had run through my head.

''Dad, please don't leave me.''

One of the police officers dragged me away and as I yelled and cried, I realized that I lost two parents in the same month.

My dad yelled as they took him outside towards the police car.

''Victoria! Take care of my girl! Please, take care of Melanie.''

I got loose and ran upstairs.

As I was running up the stairs I started yelling while tears boiled down my cheeks.

''Chrissy!! Chrissy!!''

She ran towards the stairs as I got to the top.

''Mel, are you okay?''

I fell to my knees and started sobbing, I have never been this hysterical in my entire life.

I cried for so many reasons that day.

I cried for my mom, my dad, Jason, for the situation that we are in, I cried because I didn't know what to do and what was happening. All of my bottled up pain from over the years came out all at once, pain from when my dog died when I was seven years old to where I am right now. Every bit of pain that I have ever kept in flowed out of me like a waterfall.

My head was on fire, my throat was aching and my eyes stayed shut. When I couldn't get any more tears out I slowly opened my eyes. I didn't even notice Chrissy's arms around me, she was on the floor and holding onto me, I wondered how long she had been holding me.

''Mel, we will figure out who is behind this. I promise we will get your dad back.''

Her dad could be dead and she is promising me that we would get my dad back. I felt selfish, I should be the one making this promise to her and not the other way around.

I got up from the floor cautiously, I felt very dizzy. The walls were spinning around me and it took a moment to adjust my feet without losing balance.

I dug my fingernails into Chrissy's arm and when I finally got my breath back I got into full mission mode. The walls weren't spinning anymore and I knew exactly what to do next.

I sprinted to my room and started packing a backpack full of clothes.

''What are you doing?''

I never made eye-contact, I had things to do.

''Leaving.''

Chrissy took my bag away from me.

''You aren't going anywhere.''

I grabbed my bag back and shoved a few more things into it.

''I have to leave; I need to fix this.''

She shut the door in my face when I bolted towards it.

''You aren't going anywhere without me.''

Was it selfish that I considered taking her?

''No, I put you through enough already.''

She frowned and stood in front of me.

''My dad is out there too; you aren't leaving without me.''

She was so stubborn that she would genuinely not let me go anywhere without her.

''Fine, I need a driver anyway.''

She cleared her throat.

''You aren't forgetting about the third musketeer, are you?''

No way. I can't drag him deeper in than he already is.

''Angelo isn't coming. I can't put another person into even more trouble, I already regret letting you come.''

She crossed her arms.

''No.''

She slid down the door with her arms still crossed.

''I have all day, Mel. The entire day, all twenty-four hours.''

Is she being serious right now? This is so childish.

''We have to leave before sundown.''

She looked me dead in the eyes.

''Well, whether we do that is up to you.''

You have to be kidding me.

''Fine! We leave my house in ten minutes. Call Angelo.''

She gave me a grin and jumped up with glee.
