"We need to redo your nails." Robin blurts out as we burst into her room with my "spennanight" bag that actually held my outfit for the night. "And for your hair, I'm transforming that curly hair into a feathered cut." she beams excitedly as we slam onto her bed.
Robin's been learning to do hair for a few months now and being the good friend I am I'm usually her test dummy. Mama hates that because she's very protective of my hair, but hair is hair. It'll grow back.
Usually, Robin is forced to wear afros because her mom likes that, so she rebels to never combing it challenging her mom to braid it so then Robin couldn't play in it and ruin her thick bushy hair.
We all have our fights with our parents from time to time and that was theirs. Mines was still being treated like the kid because I was the youngest, but Tony could do as he pleases.
"Feathered cut?" I asked narrowing my eyes thinking back when my mama had that same look couple months ago.
"Yes, I'll use mama pressing comb and with a few snips from the scissors and a little grease, you'll be blazin." Robin bites her underlip in excitement already running to her dresser where she placed her nail polish. She only had a few colors, but all she needed was the rose red. She turns to me shaking the bottle rapidly while grabbing the nail polish remover.
I can admit tonight I was beyond nervous that my hands began dripping of soaking sweat. Like I was ringing out the dish cloth and it stained my hands with the filthy water.
I could honestly get caught. I know mama agreed for me to come stay the night, but that's not what we're really doing.
" Let's get started!" Robin grins with a look of amusement running to the bed where I sat and placing all items on the bed.
I smile at her tenderly, placing my chipped nails on her lap as she takes a wipe from aside her bed. She twisted the top of the nail polish remover off making the highly alarming acetone fragrance spread into my nostrils and I shrieked my nose in disgust. I hated the horrid smell.
I watched as she placed the wipe on top of the bottle's opening and tipped it a bit, so that the acetone would soak the wipe. I hummed as she began to rub my thumb with the wipe my eyes glaring at my once sunshine yellow nail turn back to its natural state.
My eyes roamed to her bedsheets to see patterned daisies on the spread. I simpered in small thought.
Daisies.
The boy has my daisy, hopefully. Hopefully he didn't forget about me. Even though, I know he should, but he was sweet. Especially when I was being rude.
Harry.
" I made a new friend." I murmur kinda nervous to bring it up to Robin.
"What? When?" Robin popped up from her concentration making me smile slightly breathing low due to my nerves. She goes back to work wiping the nail polish from my fingers.
" Saturday at the corner store. They helped me buy my snacks." I say biting my underlip anxiously.
" That was nice of her." Robin says wiping the last finger from its past, then pulling out the red fingernail polish. She twist the top off and dipped a bit in, sliding the extra polish on the corners of the bottle.
I took a deep breath, of course she thinks it's a girl. Robin grabs my index in preparation to begin.
"Yeah, that was nice of.. him." I linger the last part and once it left my lips it insistently made Robin zip across my index missing my entire nail and paint my skin. She popped her head up and gasped, not because of the mistake, but because of the word.
