EXORDIUM
"Aside from the definition of social neuroscience that studies the biological bases of social behavior and how the brain reacts to social stimuli in social ways, explain how the hormone oxytocin is affecting human emotions".
I rested my chin on my hand as Miss Dela Vegaz flashed the first question in front. The whole class had to take a random pop quiz. A surprisingly long exam, and of course, not to mention the ever-nerve-wracking index card recitation.
"Delgado," a collective sigh of relief from my classmates throughout the whole classroom as Miss Dela Vegaz finally draws a name from the pile of index cards she's holding.
The silence was the only thing that screaming all over the place. It is as if no one is around, as if none of us were capable of uttering a single word and foremost, it turned out everyone was holding their breath and humans can live without breathing.
"For the last time, Delgado." Miss Dela Vega repeated, tapping her heels impatiently against the floor. Still, no one stood up or I must say, Delgado didn't have the courage to stand up.
Everyone held their breath when Miss Dela Vegaz suddenly marched over to the middle part of the classroom on the spot where Delgado is sitting. It's almost comical at this point how this woman has the power to control everyone's attention.
"Get out of my class." She directed, looking straight at Delgado when he finally had the courage to look at our professor on an eye level.
"M-Ma'am, I—"
"Out or you want me to shout?"
This woman's velvety toneless yet intimidating voice will surely make anyone shrink from their chair as soon as she parts her attractive heart shape lips painted with classic red lipstick. Plus the fact that there is no hope of compassion is on her face.
I must say, powerful in and out.
"O-Out, ma'am."
I watched as the colors drained from his face. He dejectedly stood up and gathered his things to make his way out of the classroom, for the fifth time around for this whole semester. I had to fight the urge not to roll my eyes at his reaction. Oh well, I guess... he never learned.
Miss Dela Vegaz followed his figure like a hawk until he finally left the classroom. The said professor made her way back in front of the classroom looking at us intently and immediately grabbing all our attention.
"As for the next one, it'll be..." echoes of gasps were heard as she silently browsed through the pile of index cards in her hands. Everyone is silently praying that their names wouldn't be called by the said professor. I mentally rolled my eyes at how she gave us her famous smirk while scanning the rest of the room. "...Santiago."
I can hear Jane mutter strings of cursed words under her breath about how today is her unlucky day. Slowly, Jane stood up, I almost felt bad how her hands are shaking violently due to her nervousness. "W-Well, u-uh—"
"Be straight to the point, Santiago." Ms. Dela Vega said, cutting her off immediately.
Geez, at least give her time to compose herself.
Jane gripped the edge of her skirt to straighten herself. "T-The, u-uh—"
"I said, straight to the point." Miss Dela Vegaz said, pursing her lips disapprovingly.
"T-The oxytocin, m-ma'am was a u-uh t-the hormone that stimulates l-love and trust towards p-people whom r-regarded po as h-highly."
A moment of awkward silence filled the room after Jane answered the question, Miss Dela Vegaz's lips were tightly shut. Her nostrils were comically flared while her eyes were squinting slightly as if she were trying to dissect my classmate's entire being. Clenching her jaw and her trying to control her impending outburst.
