Jesse's POV 👦:
"Maybe she followed a path we took before looking for apples or something. Or the lake. Why don't we follow some old paths first." I suggest.
"O-o-okay" Lindsey stutters. She's pretty much stopped crying but you know how when you try to stop crying you like hyperventilate? I don't know how else to describe it but you get the point.
We go down the path we took last night to the lake. We look on the path and around the path just in case she stumbled off the path a bit. We finally get to the fresh, calm, blue lake. Nothing. She's not here. I don't see her anywhere.
"J-j-j-......." Lindsey begins, honestly scaring me.... Why couldn't she finish her sentence??
"Linds what's wrong??" I say running up to her.
"J-j-j-je..." She didn't get much more out.
"Lindsey" I say gently grabbing her forearms. "Lindsey what's wrong? are you okay?" I say calmly.
"Jesse..." She finally spits out. "What if.... What if she....." Lindsey says pointing to the lake. OhmyGod. No. No no no no no. What if she fell into the lake? We were generally close to the lake so I slide my hand down to just her hand and let go with the other as I begin to step into the lake.
"W-w-wh.." She stutters.
"It's okay Linds. I'm just trying to see how deep the lake is." I say taking my second step into the lake. It's not very deep along the edges. I take a each new step slowly. Each step getting closer and closer to the middle of the lake.Lindsey's POV 👩:
Jesse and I start our search by going on the path we took to the lake last night. We pass the pine trees and the apple trees and everything else and we finally arrive at the lake. The lake isn't quite a circle it's kind of an awkward squiggly circle with and an awkward squiggly shape of just grass around it about maybe 8 feet wide all around it until it reaches the trees. Jesse starts searching around the trees and bushes surrounding this little secluded spot. He checks up in the branches in case she climbed the tree and low in the bushes and around them incase she's sitting in or near them. He comes back by himself. Nothing. I stand there staring at the lake thinking. I didn't even help in search. I can't stop staring at this lake. I can almost taste the cold of the lake from here. What if.....
"J-j-j-j....." I try to speak. I can't do it. If I say it, it will come true. But how can we be sure it's not already?
"J-j-j-je...." I try again.
"Lindsey" I hear a voice say. I feel hands gently wrap around my forearms. "Lindsey what's wrong?" The voice says again. The voice was calm and comforting, familiar.
"Jesse..." Seems to be all I can spit out. I try again. "W-what if...." Come on Lindsey spit it out. Jeez. "What if she......" I can't say more. Instead I just point to it. I point to the large, circular, mass of cold, blue-clear, water. I feel the hands disappear from my arms but one slides to my hand.
"W-w-wh.." I stutter.
Before I can even try to continue, "it's okay Linds. I'm just trying to see how deep the lake is" the same adorable voice says, reading my mind. If only I could tell who it is but I can't see straight and I'm kinda dizzy.....
