They head down stairs and pick a movie to watch. Emaline turns off the lights as it begins and plops down next the Kate. The next thing they know they've watched almost all the VHS tapes in the house! The house is finally silent. Alex passed out midway through the third movie and Kate who had lost track of time, decides to check, it's 12:01 am on a school night and her father hasn't come home yet, a worried look forms on her face. "what's wrong sweetheart?" Emaline asks.
"It's just, my dad isn't home yet and it 12:01am " Kate replies worried.
"I'm sure he's fine, he'll be home soon." her girlfriend reassured. And just like that her father stumbled through the door drunk and disoriented. Kate rushes to him to help

"what the hell dad?" she shouts, "where were you? are you okay? why are you drunk?" she continues.
"honey I'm fine" ken slurs, "I'm just having a hard time with sherry and all. she hasn't really spoken to me, I just wish she would tell me what was going on."
"awe dad, do you want help getting to bed?"
"please."Mr Messner states, sadness laced in his voice. Kate helps her dad up the stairs, both upset. she helps her father into bed and sets a bucket next to him. meanwhile downstairs, Alex looks at Emaline, "I think I should go."
"maybe I ask Kate when she gets down and if you truly have no place to go she may let you stay the night."
"asked me what, babe" Kate's voice rings and she walks down the stairs.
"if Alex can stay..."
"oh, um can I talk to you in private for a sec?" Kate leads Emaline into the kitchen. "you know how I feel about her emaline! I don't want her flirting with you and I get I was nice and let her stay but that was because I could watch and make sure she didn't do anything. I love and trust you, I don't feel the same about her!" she whisper yells.
"she's got no where else to go! she's been kicked out just like me! why aren't you treating this the same way?" emaline pleads.
"why are you on her side? and what do I tell my dad when he wakes up tomorrow to find another girl in my room?"
"Kate it's really late, and she doesn't have to stay in your room. please let her stay for one night. she deserves a safe place to land, just as much as the rest of us.". emaline states calmly.
"fine. one night." Kate isn't excited about it but she's trust her girlfriend and her judgement. they both exit the kitchen to find Alex sitting there attentively, "you can stay." Kate states coldly and tosses some blankets and a pillow at her. "you sleep here, don't do anything stupid." she turns and leaves.
