The doorbell sounded in three quick rings before I was greeted excitedly by Nanay Winnie. Tila ba inaasahan niya ang pagdating ko.
"Ang alaga ko!" She hugged me tightly habang pinupunasan ang kaunting luha sa mata. I don't fancy hugs or any physical contact but she's my exception.
"I missed you too, Nanay." After almost a minute pinakawalan niya rin ako at hinila na papasok.
"Halika, nandyan si Daddy mo sa taas pati ang mga Kuya mo, kanina ka pa hinihintay." Pinaypay niya ang isang kasambahay na bago sa paningin ko.
"Irene pakisabi kay Senior nandito na si Sabrina." Sabay baling ng tingin sa akin
"Anak gusto mo ba ng maiinom? Ikukuha kita."
"Hindi na po Nay... May bago po palang kasambahay." I commented as I take a seat on a savile tufted sofa.
She stood in front of me. Ganoon pa rin ang hitsura ni Nanay Winnie, may nadagdag lang na puting buhok at linya sa noo.
"Oo, si Irene pamangkin ko. Matagal-tagal ka ring hindi nakadalaw eh, miss na miss na kita."
"Ako din po Nay." I smiled back. I felt the same really, kasi halos sina Nanay Winnie at Nanay Vicky na ang nagpalaki sa'kin. But the latter was later then fired by Ate Amara because she was the one who kept on defending me against Ate's demands. Isa pa iyon sa rason kung bakit tuluyan na akong nag-desisyong bumukod.
"Pababa na po si Senior." Our exchange was immediately cut off by Irene.
Bigla akong kinabahan. I'm not really sure as to why Dad wanted to see me all of a sudden. Iyong alam ko lang ay baka kinausap sila ni Ate na kumbinsihin akong sumunod sa kanya sa Amerika.
But knowing Ate Amara, she wouldn't ask help from Dad. She'd rather handle it herself than to ask a favor from any member of the family.
Dad is wearing his white polo shirt and a straight leg black jeans while holding a diplomat tobacco pipe on his hand. Beside him is his butler, Agosto.
Tumayo ako at yumuko ng kaunti.
"Good evening, Dad."
He blew off a little smoke upward before giving me a nod. "Good for you to finally pay a visit."
Just by hearing his words I'm not sure if it was a mock or an insult. I would say both.
As soon as he entered the dining room, the movement of every single worker went stiffly orchestrated. From serving the food on a Turkish long table to the arrangement of utensils and ornaments.
