Your phone rang alarmingly, waking you up from your night's slumber. As you rubbed your eyes in frustration, you groaned at the thought of extending your arm anywhere longer than a foot. You had just had the best nap you've ever experienced—no discomforts, no nightmares, and most importantly, no interruptions, until now.

You were slightly irritated at the person who chose to disturb your sleep, but that irritation dissipated as you roughly saw the name displayed on the phone's screen. Without any further hesitation, you slid the bar to answer and held the gadget against your ear. A quick silence passed by as the person on the other line waited for you to talk, in which you did with your hoarse morning voice.

"Minju-ah, you just woke up?" Your best friend, Chris, asks you, seemingly surprised.

You hummed in response, still not having the energy to speak yet. Your best friend went on to lecture you on how you shouldn't be waking up so late and should become more productive with your life, but as he spoke, you only listened to him halfheartedly as you thought about what to do. Summer wasn't as exciting as you thought it would be when you were in school.

"Anyway, you should start thanking me, Minju," he starts, finishing his rant. You were already used to his nonsense, but even so, this phrase came to you as a surprise.

"For what?" You lazily ask him but you were undoubtedly growing interested.

"I'm going to make your summer better," he foreshadows his big news, making you feel slightly impatient. As he heard no answer, Chris decided to speak up since he knew you were only waiting for him to fill the silence.

"My uncle invited us to help out his business in New York. Sounds exciting?" He continues and you could hear the thrill in his voice as it went about two notes higher as his sentence ended. Being honest, you were more than excited to hear this.

As your parents died when you were only seven and barely mature enough to go abroad at that age, you had never been to other countries. But even after growing up eleven years, you always thought of your dear grandmother who had taken care of you ever since that day. Leaving her alone was never an option since you didn't even have any siblings or close relatives to take care of her while you're out and about. She meant way more to you than anyone ever will, and you were more than scared for her safety whenever you did leave her for anything related to school or work.

But at the time, you hadn't even thought about your grandmother yet. All you could think of was how amazing it would be to travel. You momentarily imagined yourself having fun packing your luggages and getting on the plane, looking out the window and seeing Korea from above.

"Anything that can get me out of this house sounds exciting right now, Chris," you reply, earning a sarcastic laugh from your best friend. Obviously, he knew you were only grumpy since you had just woken up, but he couldn't help but find your grumpiness a little hilarious.

"I was going to tell you more about the trip, but I guess I could tell you about friends later if you're still groggy," Chan mocks your grumpiness, but as soon as you heard the word 'friends', you forced yourself to wake up and ask him about more.

"Friends? Who's coming? Is it Jung-" you bombard Chris with questions, wanting to know more about this trip.

"No, Jungwoo is not coming. Dang, Minju, when will you ever be more interested in me rather than my cousin?" Chris cuts you off before you could further ramble on about his cousin. Yes, Chris' cousin Jungwoo was also a close friend of yours. Sadly, Chris would not allow you to go near him after he found out about your big, fat crush on him. You were good at keeping secrets, but Chris was all up in your business, trying to know every single speck of your boring life.

"When you finally earn a life outside the studio, Chris. Now, tell me—if it's not that hot mate of yours, then who is it?" You answer back, only wanting to find out who else was going to enjoy this trip.

"Did you not even think of your friends, Minju? Hyunjin? Jisung? Changbin? Not even Jeongin?" Chan asks, his tone once again surprised at your clumsiness.

"Oh, yeah, right. I had those friends," you say as it hit you that it made more sense of Chris to invite them rather than his cousin.

"You're such a horrible friend, Minju. I may not have a life, but you don't have any love for us," Chris grunts and you could almost swear that he was pouting on the other line.

"Sorry, dude. Just woke up," you make an excuse for yourself.

"Yeah, yeah, 'just woke up'. You were excited about Jungwoo just ten seconds ago," Chris mocks you again, making you chuckle.

"Alright, I'm sorry. You know for your physique, you're quite sensitive," you jokingly apologize and try to lighten the mood with a playful insult, knowing that your best friend won't take it to heart.

"I'm not sensitive. I'm just a little hurt knowing that my best friend didn't even think of her main group of friends," as expected, Chris replies with a petty excuse to defend his pride.

"Okay, stop pouting over there. Just know that I still need to ask for permission you know," you end your little play argument with him. Now the thought of leaving your grandmother kicks in. You mentally sighed as you realize that you may not be able to join them and have fun. Sadly, it became normal for you to miss out on these things.

"Right," Chris adds and you can hear the change of tone in his voice. You could tell that he was a little disappointed with the news, but you wanted him to cheer up as even you had a little hope.

"Don't be bummed, Chris. You never know, what if I do get to go?" You try to cheer him up. At this point, your best friend sounded even sadder than you. He always felt bad that you were never with them in their after-school hangouts. To count the times he desperately wanted you to come with his fingers weren't enough. You opted for going over to your place, but you all eventually got sick of the same environment over and over again.

You always told them to go without you, and you always tried to put your best smile on when they were about to leave, but at the same time, you felt left out and not part of the most of their conversations. They always told you that they much prefer hanging out with you in school than being without you, especially Minho and Felix, but you couldn't help but feel bitter about it.

Of course, you loved your grandmother and would do anything for her, but sometimes, you just felt like you were missing out on the fun part of being young and a teen.

Chris scoffs evidently, "Yeah, right. When dogs can fly, Minju,"

"It's pigs."

"What?"

"It's pigs not dogs, idiot."
