"Did Hyunjin buy ice cream, too?" Jisung asks, laying beside you and Seungmin on the long bench.
You had your head rested on Seungmin's lap, and because of your dress, he lent you his jacket to hide your legs with. You were all pretty much done for the day as the sun was slowly returning to its cave, and everyone just waited for Hyunjin to come back with the snacks he said he was going to buy.
You saw other people taking a seat, as well—some in the same position as you, Jisung, and Minho, laying on the hard, wood benches.
You couldn't blame them. After a full day at an amusement park, you were sure to grow tired.
Taking in deep breaths, you shifted your stare from the fluffy clouds in the sky to the walking mascots that circled the park. There were the classics like Harry Potter and Spider-Man, but then, there were also more general characters like vampires, zombies, fairies, and others.
You were fanning yourself from the heat, rolling over to find a comfortable spot on the flat surface. Suddenly, Seungmin's face came into your view, and you couldn't contain your smile any longer.
Man, he was flawless. Even when just staring ahead of him, every speck of his face just made your stomach churn. You couldn't believe you were able to call such person 'yours'. He had no imperfections in your eyes. To you, he was the ideal guy.
He thought you were sculpted, you thought he was sculpted.
The feeling was mutual.
He hears your chuckles and looks down at you, seeming confused. "What?"
"Nothing. You're just really handsome," you compliment him like how he would do to you. At this, he brought his arm up from his side, reaching to rub your cheek a little before placing a quick peck on your forehead.
"I bought you guys ice cream, but I guess y'all are too busy with each other," you snap your head to look at Hyunjin coming towards you guys with numerous packs of ice cream sandwiches in his hands.
"He did buy ice cream!"
But just as you were about to get up, you felt a sharp object touch your bare back, screaming a deafening sound right into your ear, and you fell onto the rough ground. You could just feel the uneven surface bruise your knees black and blue, but you look around to see Jisung and Minho on the ground, as well, while the others either looked back to see what horrifying sound scared the crap out of them or reacted like Hyunjin and leaped forward, over-exaggerating.
You noticed it was one of those creepy masks that you passed by earlier in a random shop, almost similar to the ones of the hired workers. Those masks were made for people to take as souvenirs or for fanatics to simply feel like one of the characters since they admired them so much but, dream-crushingly, couldn't be them.
Not even two seconds later, a high-pitched round of laughter surrounded the nine of you, and the figures removed their masks one-by-one.
It took a bit of time to process what was going on, but when you did, you realized those three 'creatures' who chose you as their victims were actually just naughty teenagers who wanted to have their fun.
The others even had themselves dressed in full costumes, with long nails, wigs, and everything to complete the imitation of some unidentified creature.
Traumatically, the boy who stood in front of you was dripping in blood, seeming to have been a survivor of a car wreck,
which brought you back 11 years.
Although you didn't see your parents with your own eyes, anything that looked like a bloody face undoubtedly scared you.
Little blood was alright (that's why you were able to tolerate the blood on your hands back in New York), but his mimicry of an accident victim was way too realistic, and it led you to imagine that that was what your parents looked like when it happened to them.
