I sat on a chair, watching the ocean, hit the tall walls of the palace. "Only then will you see it. Let the water guide you." I sighed, what am I doing. I should be focusing on tonight. I glared up at the sun. It would soon be time. I sat up making my way into the wardrobe. I was heading to Kamales, one of the poorest towns in Cadovean. The people there were suffering more than any other town, with little to no food, they were beginning to turn on each other. The Central town, located in the palace quarters was already in a panic if neighboring towns were to see this it would soon cause a chain reaction. Sooner or later we would have the whole Kingdom, against us. But father would not listen to me, he was blinded by his own ego. In his eyes a woman did not have a say in anything, they were only made, to produce, and serve the king.
But I.
I refused to serve anyone but myself.
The Kingdom. Something odd was happening, as if we were under some curse, a few years back, everything was peaceful, people food, water, money, anything they wanted, but now people were struggling to even buy get a handful of water. I looked over at the portrait that laid above my bed. "After you died the whole Kingdom, seemed to go into mourning, "The rivers dried up, the soil became unusable, a disease almost wiped away the whole kingdom.
Father...became ruthless.
Not the man I new.
I grabbed my black attire, along with a clock, shoving it inside a pouch. I would be leaving the room with a dress, but once outside I would remove the long skirt and change into the black trousers, the corset would stay on. The clock will be the one to keep me hidden. There was a knock on the door. I shoved the pouch under the dresses, quickly closing the wardrobe. I cleared my voice, walking down to the door. "Princess Dawnavine." My eyes left my body. "Marshal?! He bowed. What in the world. "Ahm what are you doing here?" I sweatdropped, oh this is not good. "I just thought you show know that I will be the one taking care of you this week while the King is gone. I gulped.
Huh!
I put up my best face. "Marsal are you sure that's the best idea, I mean you did just get home, I'm sure the trip back home wasn't easy. Why don't you take this week off, there's plenty of guards, no need to worry." I smiled. "Princess I appreciate the concern, but I am Marsal for a reason, your father entrusted me with you, I will do everything in my power to keep you safe." I nodded, with a big understanding smile. But slowly died on the inside.
Two hours had passed by and I was seen pacing back forth in the comfort of my chambers. I looked down the window, "The fall isn't too far down..." Who was I kidding I was done for. I groaned into the pillow stuffed with feathers. Out of all of the days, why did the marshal have to be here! He wasn't Marshel for any reason, nothing got passed him. There was a light knock on the door. "Come in, Febian." She opened the door revealing my newly washed dresses. "I have just come to put these dresses away" I nodded sighing into my pillow watching her delicately handle the dresses. You know from this point of view, she looked very, may I say noble.
She looked noble...
I quickly stood up. "Febian I need you to do something for me." She already looked suspicious. "I don't like where this is going."
15 Minutes Later
"No princess, this out of the question I refuse." I glared. "You refuse?" This was very annoying. "May I remind you it is I, you work for, this is an order, not a request." She clenched her fist. "Very well princess." She began to undress, herself, as did I. I'm sorry but it was the only way you would listen. She handed over her maid dress. I slid it on. Pinning my hair up and placing the small fabric all maids wore on there head, this was meant to cover half of there face. "You stay here, I'll be back before midnight." Her gaze remained on the floor, she wanted to say something, but I just left. I'm sorry. I held the basket with my things inside of it covering it with dresses. I passed by the guards without an issue.
Where's the Marshal- I gasped feeling myself pump into someone. I just had to jinx myself. It was Marshal. I quickly bowed hiding my face. "I apologize, sir." I made my voice squeaky, quickly going around him. "Hold it." Oh no. I slowly turned around, "You dropped this." He handed me a pillowcase. "T-thank you." I bolted straight towards the kitchen area. Everyone seemed to be on their breaks because there was no one here. The heavens were on my side. I looked at the basket then looked at the food. Perfect.
10 Minutes Later
I was out of the palace, my initial plan was to sneak out through the woods, but then I realized how much more it made sense to blend in with the common folks, to anyone in the towns I was just some maid. This was the perfect disguise. My face remained hidden under this fabric, no one would recognize me. I walked over to a Horse stable. "Hello Miss, how can I help you." Said the man. "I need a horse, for 6 hours." He nodded. I handed over the coins, Within minutes I had my horse. "Thank you, sir, I will have the horseback by midnight." He nodded.
Taking a horse was the fastest way there, walking was out of the question, If I did, it would take me far longer, then just a few hours.
A few hours had passed by and I had finally arrived. The town seemed empty, I didn't blame them, this town was very dangerous, especially at night. I sighed the house down, grabbing the basket, it wasn't much, but I hoped this food would help them. I quickly began distributing food to each door, nocking before leaving. Half an hour had passed by and I managed to deliver, most of the food, all that was left was the orphanage. The even darker part of town, for months, know I had begged father to relocate the orphanage to a safer part, but as always he refused to listen to a woman. I lost my footing tripping on a twig, falling straight onto the ground.
"Thank you, very much, malady." My eyes widened. "Hey, you get back here!" A skinny drunk twice my age ran off with the basket. That thief! I quickly ran towards him, he was fast, but not to the point where I could lose him, he ran inside to what seemed a market? I blindly followed, "Get back here!" I swung the doors open, receiving multiple stairs. I gulped. This wasn't a market.
I was inside a cantine.
The drunk laughed. "What's wrong, not feeling very chatty now." I looked down at the basket, it had been a week since I had delivered any food, the kids must be starving by now,
I needed that basket.
One way or another.
I was going to get back.
"Sir I'll ask again, please give me back the basket." He laughed. "Did you hear what she said.' His buddies laughed. I grew even more irritated. "Now tell me why would I do that this basket isn't just any ordinary one, this basket here my fellow friend comes straight from the palace, meaning we got ourselves, a royals maid." I gulped. Ah oh. Everyone faces switched from laughter to pure anger. I knew the people from this town didn't like our royals, but now I was beginning to realize that they hated anything and anyone associated with the King.
"So tell me friends shall we show, or little maid here what we do to anyone associated with the king?' They grinned and snickered. I gritted my teeth in disgust. Men will be men. Disgusting.
