Mia's POV
I woke up and went back down to my office. I felt slightly better, but I was miserable. On the outside, I was this strong woman, but on the inside, I was a wolf wanting her mate. My dad made sure to raise to be a strong woman to deal with the men's world. He never hid me from reality; I was trained for this role. My dad taught me to put up a strong front, never let me wolf win. The human and rational side needed to protect the pack.
Ben was still hard at work on the projects. I decided to check in with the guards to make sure everything was okay. "Cupcake over to Redtower over," I said in our walk talkie system. My nickname is cupcake since they are my favorite dessert. We named our locations different names like redtower and changed it, so rogues don't catch on.
"Redtower over." I heard.
"Status report over."
"Everything is clear, and shit change was perfect over."
"Keep up the good work. Cupcake out." I told them."Cupcake over to Bluetower," I said.
"Bluetower over."
"Status report."
"Everything, including shift change, is good. The guests were safely escorted off pack ground." He was gone; I felt relieved and sad.
"Good work. Cupcake out.""Cupcake over to Greentower."
"Greentower over."
"Status report."
"Everything clear over."
"Good job over.""Cupcake to Yellowtower over."
"Yellowtower over."
"Status report."
"Everything clear over."
"Great thanks, over."That resumed the guard check-in. I would start to change the names soon; they are just the easiest to remember now. "Okay, so we have all our paperwork ready for both the college credit plus program and training program. I faxed over the paperwork to those who need it. What is next, Alpha?" Ben turned to me.
"Dinner?" I asked, and he sighed. He always knew I had the tough exterior. Ben was one of the few that were allowed to see the soft exterior. That's why I chose him as beta, but also because he's qualified for the job.
Ben and I went to school together but I always knew I would chose him as my beta. He has always been a great team player. Ben doesn't mind when I boss him around but he's also just a really good friend. It was always the three of us: Isabella, Mia, and Ben.
"Was I too hard on him?" I asked, feeling less confident in my decision. My wolf was telling me to go to him; he will complete me. My human side was telling me I wasn't an object for him to possess.
"No, he was way out of line. You have worked your whole life for this position; it isn't fair for you to drop it to become second best. No offense, but you would make a bad luna." He smiled and hugged me.
Ben was also a real great friend in terms of advice. He has helped Isabella over the years with her boy problems a bunch of times. Ben is use to seeing both sides in terms of relationships. He is obviously a man but also understands the woman's perspective because of Isabella and me. It was perfect. Ben made me feel better about the James situation 100%.
"Let's go have some dinner with the pack," I said as he gave me his arm. I needed the support to face the crowd. We were bombarded as soon as we stepped foot in the new dining hall. It was one of the many projects my dad and I did. He swears I was his beta most of the time. Jerry, his real beta, didn't mind.
My aunt with Reba made me sit down with them. I laughed as they told jokes and funny stories. While my uncle was telling the family a funny story of growing up in a one-story house, my aunt wanted to have a conversation with me. "So how did it go with your mate? He stormed off pretty mad." She whispered in my ear.
"He wanted me to give up my pack to be luna of his. I stood up for myself and told him to come back with more updated views on gender." I whispered back, and she laughed. "That's my niece. Good for you, girl. Whenever you need to talk, though, my door is always open." She whispered and hugged me. I was grateful for my blood family and pack family.
I just wished he was here for this. I would love to introduce him to everyone, especially Reba, formally. However, I refuse to give up who I am to appease him. I'm not giving up my dreams just for some man. I don't care what the moon goddess thought when she paired us together.
