16. James

James's POV

I woke up in the middle of our forest. I went back to my pack house, devastated. I let my wolf win. I've always let him win. Because of that, I lost Mia, and I would forever regret that. I decided I was going actually to change for Mia.

I talk to my father before he left for Broken Light Pack. "Father, I was a jerk. I need help." I started to break down and cry. My whole had a massive hole in it, and I lost Mia. She was everything to me.

"Man up," my father told me and left. I flinched at the harsh tone in his voice. Thankfully, my mother came in to comfort me. She took me into her arms. I suspect that my father mind linked for her. I clung to my mother as my father left for his trip.

"Honey, I know, Mia told me what happened." My mother surprised me with that confession.
"Mom, I'm a terrible mate and alpha."
"Don't say that James, you will have your chance to prove it."
"No, Mom, you don't understand. Mia is the perfect alpha. She knows what it takes. She is there for her pack. They are her number one concern. I don't know why I want my title, maybe just to prove that I'm masculine enough."

"Honey, I hate to say it, but that's how your father has raised you because that is how he was raised. I tried my hardest to try to help you not wrap your identity in this power and title. I think you might need to discuss this with the council."
"Will you go with me?" I asked, needing some support for this. This would be the biggest decision of my life.

"Of course, honey, I support you." She said as she wiped the tears from my face. We walked down to the council meeting room. They seemed surprised to see me as I asked them for a meeting.

We all sat down, and my mother grabbed my hand. I squeezed and began. "I know I took an oath to this pack to be the alpha, but I also took an oath to do what is best for the pack. Alpha Mia from the Diamond Heart Pack is my mate, and she has shown me what an alpha is supposed to be. I wish to resign from being Alpha of this pack and wish to join Diamond Heart Pack."

They all talked through the mind link, and I looked at my mother for more support. She smiled at me. "This takes a lot of strength, James. I'm so proud of you. I will definitely talk to your father for you." She told me.
"Thank you."

The council turned back to me. The head member started to speak, and my stomach was a bundle of nerves. "Alpha James, we accept your resignation and respect you. We will allow you to leave this pack for your mate. We will give you a week to find a replacement."

"I wish to nominate my Beta Dominic for your consideration." Dominic is perfect for the job. They all talked with the mind link and told me Dominic is an excellent choice. I breathed a sigh of relief. I would finally be able to get Mia.

My mother and I went back to the house. I called Dominic to come while my mother made us some snacks. "I'm so proud of you." She told me, and I thanked her.

Dominic came over quicker than I expected. We sat down on the couch. "What's up James?" He asked me, and I sighed. "I'm giving up my Alpha title for Mia. I want you to be Alpha."

"Oh wow, I wasn't expecting this, but I will take the alpha position. I am happy for you that you want to be with your mate."
"Thank you; I just want to keep it a secret right now if you want. I want to surprise Mia."

"Of course, did you want to go over during the training program next week?"
"Yeah, I think I'm going to tell her during it."
"Good, you should also ask her out on a real date." I smiled, that was a great idea!

"Thank you, Dominic, you are my best friend." I hugged him, and he left. The next week passed by slowly as I prepared to switch over to the other pack. My mother talked with my father, who was not happy about my decision. I didn't expect it to be on board with it. My mother tried to talk to him, but he was defiant that his son would not do this.

Dominic was amazing at taking over the alpha position. Right now, I was the face of the job but he was the real alpha. We didn't announce until the morning of the training program. We were leaving after breakfast.

I stood up and gave my pack a speech. "I would like to thank my pack for raising me and accepting me as Alpha. However, I officially resign from the position. I have decided to leave this pack to be apart of the Diamond Heart Pack to be with my mate Alpha Mia. I appreciate everything you have done for me. Beta Dominic will officially be your Alpha. Thank you." I sat down, and everyone looked shocked.

Most of the pack seemed to accept it as the breakfast continued. I was a little sad to leave this pack, but I was ready to be with Mia. I didn't deserve her, but I will try to make it up to her for the rest of my life. I would try to be her perfect luna.

It became time to leave my pack for the training program. I would see Mia again after we had a horrible fight. I was nervous to see her again, but I needed it. I had a horrible week, and I couldn't sleep or eat much.

I said my goodbyes and loaded up my truck with some of my stuff. I was nervous to see if Mia would actually accept me into her pack, but I know my pack would take me back in a heartbeat. I took a deep breath and started the drive to Diamond Heart Pack. To my Mia.
