Mia's POV
After my pack reassured me, I was their strong leader, and I worked my butt off to prove it. I checked on our rogues we took in from Green Pike pack.
Ashley and Grace, the two adults of the group, were living in a house full of other unmated female adults. They would visit the kids often but wanted them to branch out and make friends.
Ralph and Jimmy were both given to the same family, the Robinsons. They had struggled with infertility for so long, and they welcomed these kids immediately. The boys we're making friends and getting good grades in school. I was happy for them.
Sarah was settling in with a widower and her son. She was, thankfully, making friends and getting good grades in school. Her adoptive mother assured me that Sarah was adjusting. I was happy with all of them.
I changed all of our passwords and code names to make sure if we had more spies, they couldn't get to anything. Besides, I was done with the nickname cupcake. I choose my code name to be lillypad since those were my mother's favorite flowers.
Ben and I also redid our office. The new furniture looked nice and updated the office. I also enjoyed having a new desk, something that wasn't a reminder of James. I also helped teach Ben to control his wolf, wishing I was teaching the one person that needed it the most.
The training program started in a week, and Ben assured me he would deal with Alpha James and his pack from now on. I was grateful for that. Today was the last day I would see my dad and Isabella for two months. I was going to miss them, but the Broken Light Pack needed them.
My dad didn't want to go after last night, but I assured him I would be fine. My aunt was going to send him updates, and I would still talk to him. It didn't matter what I wanted anyways, and the pack comes first.
I asked Ben about my compartmentalizing, and he told me that James was being ridiculous. "You need that to survive in this position. That's what made your dad a great alpha. You constantly need to put the pack before you."
"Thanks."
"Besides, James is just a new alpha like you with everything to prove. He only said those things to get under your skin. I think his wolf wants to prove he's a better alpha than you.""Why does it have to be complicated? All I wanted in life is to be an alpha; why can't he see that?"
"Because he only sees what he wants. That's how some alphas are raised. They are the ones in control, the ones calling the shots. The pack isn't always the first thing they think about when making a decision."I thanked him for sticking with me, and he smiled. "I'm not only your beta Mia, and I am one of your best friends. I will always be here no matter what you decide is best. If you need to leave this pack, we will understand. Pack bonds are not as strong as mate bonds."
"No, I refuse to leave this pack, I need to stay here." He smiled.
"There's my Mia."After we were done with the office work, Isabella and I had a sleepover. I didn't want her last night before leaving have to consist of her babysitting me. However, she told me to cry, or she would make me. I laughed as I cried for James.
We talked all night, and it felt nice to air out my inner feelings. The next morning it was hard to let both Isabella and my dad go, but I fought through it. I was going to forget about James, and he was the one with all the control right now. He needed to apologize to me. I was not chasing after him anymore.
