15. Mia

Mia's POV

I woke up the next day, feeling miserable; my wolf needed James. James yelled at me for not showing my feelings, so I didn't mask mine. I was frankly too miserable to try. Ben mind linked with me, asking why I wasn't in the office already. I told him that today I was hitting me hard.

'Mia, you can stay in bed today if you want. You don't need to be in the office to be alpha.' He was right, of course; alpha was a 24/7 job that didn't need to happen in the office.

I thanked him and decided to get more sleep. I haven't been able to sleep very much since I left James. All of my worries came out at night. I was worried I wasn't a good enough alpha if I was only supposed to be a luna. I worried that I wasn't good enough for James. Maybe I was even too strong for him. Was I unreasonable that he should change? Mates are supposed to love you for who you are, not what they want you to change into.

I got a mini nap in before my phone started ringing. It was my dad, and I faintly smiled as I took it. I missed him. He knew what to say. He became just like a mom to me since she passed. Of course, he would never be as good as my mom would have been. But my dad does talk to me about my feelings and insecurities. He knows that I'm insecure in my alpha position but also who I am as a person.

"Hey, darling, I just wanted to check in on you."
"Today's rough, but I expected it to hit me soon. But I don't want to talk about me, tell me about the pack." He chuckled.

"Alpha Crystal is a fantastic learner; she's taking everything in right now. The pack is in okay shape. They are still adjusting to a nicer atmosphere. Alpha Paul was a monster, they are trying to trust their own Alpha Crystal, but it's hard. We're building up trust as much as we can. Isabella wants to talk to you."

I told him that I loved him, and I was proud of him. He chuckled and told me that he loved me more and was more proud of me. Isabella picked up the phone, and I smiled, hearing her voice. "I have exciting news." She told me.

"What?"
"I found my mate!" She squealed, and I dropped the phone from excitement. "What?! Who is he? What does he look like?"
"Actually, that's where it gets funny; you know how I came out as a bisexual but took it back since I was unsure?"

Isabella was a complex character; she wasn't just the fun one in the group. In high school, she struggled with her sexuality. She thought she was bisexual since she loved boys. However, she developed girl crushes on girls at school and in movies. But she was never given a chance to try it with a girl, so she decided she must be straight. We never pushed her to choose, and the pack loved her for her. So we just loved her through, no matter if she was bisexual or not.

"Yes, is your mate a girl?" I asked, more excited.
"Yes, but it might surprise you who it is."
"Wait, is it Alpha Crystal?" She squealed, and I thought my heart would burst from happiness. Isabella deserved this, and she deserved to be happy.

"So we had arrived at the pack, and my wolf started acting crazy. I brushed it off until I started to smell her. Then, I was super crazy. She smells like fall Mia, and I can't describe it. So, your dad is convinced I'm possessed and drives even faster into this place.

"We slow down, and there she was. Oh my god, she was beautiful. Mia, she has long blonde hair with piercing blue eyes that are so innocent. Oh, and that body, she was banging. So I got out, and she rushed over to me. I couldn't stop myself, so I just start kissing her.

"We literally couldn't wait any longer and just marked each other right there in front of her pack and your dad. Her pack seemed confused until she officially came out as a lesbian. Crystal's father hated lesbians, so she never came out. I was so proud of her. We've spent all her free time just talking. She's amazing, Mia, I want you to meet her."

"I am so happy for you, Isabella. You really deserve all the happiness in the world. Tell Crystal if she hurts you, I'm coming for her. But besides that, I would love to meet her. I'm just over the moon for you."

I was happy for her; throughout the conversation, I never thought about James. I wasn't jealous or envy of Isabella's happiness. Isabella laughed in my ear and then told me that she needed to go. I told her goodbye, and she hung up.

I felt slightly better after talking with my dad and her. So I started to take a shower, but then it hit me. Isabella would be officially moving to be with Alpha Crystal. After everything that has happened, I needed my best friend. She was my sister.

I know it was selfish to want her to stay here. So instead, I just sobbed in the shower. I didn't want anyone else to leave me. I wasn't independent at all. I was dependent on the people I love.

I got done with my shower and went to make some lunch. Someone knocked on my door, and I opened it to see my aunt and Reba. I smiled down at Reba and hugged her. I hugged my aunt as they came into my apartment.

"We just wanted to come by and hang out with you. Reba has missed you." I laughed and hugged her close to me. "I was just making lunch; I thought I would heat up some leftovers. You in the mood for some chicken?"

My aunt said sure, but she wanted to make it. I let her since she was a great cook. Instead, I watched a movie with Reba. She sat in my lap, and I held her. It felt good to be with my other loved ones. Reba told me all about her day, and I listened.

Then Reba asked me a question that gutted my heart. "Cousin Mia, why are you sad?" I gave her a small smile and hugged her closer. "I just have some boy troubles, that's all."

"Get rid of him." She said matter of factly, and I laughed. "I think I might," I told her honestly and kissed the top of her head. My aunt called lunch, so we both got up.

My aunt was very interested in hearing about my dad and Isabella. When I told her the good news, she almost cried. "That child deserves it. I was wondering when she would finally stop sleeping with everything that walked." I laughed. Isabella was free to do whatever she wanted, especially if that meant multiple men. It didn't mean we couldn't say a couple of jokes about her.

"I have to send Reba back to school, but I love you, Mia. Call me whenever you need someone." I hugged her and thanked her. Then I had to say goodbye to Reba. I would definitely have to visit her more. They left, and I cleaned up our apartment. It helped me think.

Ben mind linked me not soon after I finished cleaning. 'The council wants to meet with you.' I told him thanks and headed down there. I hope I wasn't in trouble. I knocked on the door, and they let me in.

I sat down in an office chair while they started the meeting. "Mia, we need to have this conversation because it affects the future of this pack. We just want you to be as honest as possible, no matter what your answers are."

"Okay, I'll be honest," I told them but was scared of what this conversation was about.
"We are concerned about your relationship with James and what it means for the pack. We just want to be informed of any plans you have of leaving the pack."

I straight-up laughed before I could stop myself. They seemed shocked at my outburst until I composed myself. "I am so sorry for that. Regarding Alpha James, I will not ever leave this pack unless someone can pry it from my dead hands. For the time being, he is staying with his pack and has no plans of joining my pack. I will inform you of any changes once I am aware of them." I assured them.

"We are grateful you are staying with us. We truly hoped you would. Moving on, we have heard rumors about a fight between the two of you."
"It seems that alphas cannot mark each other. He has my mark permanently. If he would mark me, we are afraid of the mate bond dissolving. This hasn't been proven, but there was a story of a second chance luna and an alpha marking each other."

"We will collaborate with scholars on the truth of this story."
"His sister said that she checked with Oxford researchers if that helps."
"Yes, thank you. Now that we have invaded your personal life enough for today, you to are excused." I smiled and thanked them.

They were only doing their job, making sure this pack is protected. I left and went down to my office. Ben was still in the office and smiled when he saw me. I settled in and asked him what he did today. "I just talked to your dad and Isabella. I'm happy for her."

"Me too." We talked a little more and then left the office. I went home and ate some dinner while watching a movie. I fell asleep on the couch.
