today was jack's birthday. just like he had done on daniel's birthday, daniel bursted through the front door to the avery house.

"jack robert avery! are you excited or what?" he exclaimed, watching as his best friend shrieked and collided in a hug.

"my letter comes today! i can't wait!" jack beamed. the anticipation of that owl coming with his letter is all the two boys could think of all day.

"i'm so excited! i can't wait to go to hogwarts with my best friend!" daniel cheered.

"alright alright boys! cake! c'mon!" jack's mother chuckled as she placed the cake down on the table, eleven candles lit up.

"happy birthday to you!" they all sang as he blew them out.

the cake was then divided up, each person getting a slice. "syd! tell us all about it!" jack smiled, "yeah! what's it like?"

"you lads do this every year!" sydnie laughed at her brother and his best friend. "we like the way you tell it." daniel shrugged.

the boys leaned over the coffee table, eager to hear about the place.

"alright, fine!" sydnie groaned although she wasn't really annoyed, she loved these boys.

"it's magical, quite literally. the moment the castle comes into your sight, you can't help but be in awe. no matter what year you're in, first year or fourth year. it is beautiful."

sydnie watched as the two boys' eyes widened in amazement as she spoke. "and if you think the outside of the castle is beautiful, you have no idea."

"inside the castle, it is beautiful. there are paintings everywhere, hidden little nooks in almost every hallway. the courtyard is beautiful, the scenery all around is stunning. you lads will love it."

sydnie smiled at the boys, the excitement they had to finally be going to this magical castle, it was adorable.

"so what house do you reckon you kids with be sorted to?" jack's father asked. "daniel will probably get gryffindor, like his mum." the brunette smiled.

he's always admired his mother and to possibly be in the same house she was, he would love it.

"i reckon jack will either be in gryffindor or hufflepuff." daniel spoke, smirking lightly. "he doesn't believe i'd be in ravenclaw like mum!"

sydnie and daniel both laughed loudly, "i don't believe you would either buddy." she chuckled, ruffling his curly hair.

"hey syd?" the boy spoke up after a short silence, "yeah bud?"

"do you reckon harry potter will be attending the school next year? it has been eleven years since... you know, hasn't it?" jack's question took kristin and darrin by surprise.

sydnie stayed quiet a moment, "professor dumbledore didn't mention much of it, i believe so. but we can't be too sure can we?" she shrugged.

the girl wished she could give him a better answer, but she didn't really know.

"jack! look!" daniel exclaimed, pointing out the window as he saw an owl flying toward the house. jack gasped loudly, running to the front door.

he watched as the letter slid through the post slit, snatching it up from the ground fast enough to give himself a dizzy spell.

he opened it quickly, reading aloud. "dear mr. avery, we are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry!"

and just like they had when daniel had gotten his, the two boys looked at each other in silence for a few seconds before screaming in unison.

"we're going to hogwarts jack! i cannot wait! oh my lord!" daniel bounced around.
