it was daniel seavey's eleventh birthday. the day he's been waiting for for what felt like years.

today he was finally old enough to get his hogwarts letter.

daniel lives in burgess hill, a somewhat small town. his mother, a witch. his father a muggle.

but mother always says it doesn't matter who you fall in love with, as long as the love itself is real.

his best friend lives across the street. seven houses down to be exact. jack avery.

daniel's mother went to school with jack's parents, deciding to have their kids grow up together before hogwarts.

jack had bursted through the seavey front door, full of excitement for his best friend's birthday.

"you're eleven dani! your letter's coming! aren't you excited?!" the still ten year old cheered. "i'll be even more excited once you're eleven too." the boy giggled.

"oh that'll come soon enough. but it's your day today! come on! get moving! you're eleven!"

the two best friends cheered, running around daniel's living room. "you know, it is hard to celebrate when tyler and christian aren't here."

christian was a second year, tyler in his fifth year. currently they were away at the magical school. daniel missed them, it didn't feel right celebrating without them for the past few years.

"i'm gonna miss you big bro." daniel younger sister said, "i'm not leaving yet anna. you're stuck with until september."

"besides, you'll be there soon enough. don't you worry little seavey." jack teased, ruffling her blonde hair.

daniel and jack spent the day messing around and playing games. laughing and cheering.

soon enough, the moment came. an owl. a white owl dropped a letter through the post box.

"dani baby come here!" his mother called as she picked up the letter. daniel and jack came racing into the front room, their eyes widening at what she held in her hands. followed by his father and anna.

"dani your letter came!" jack screamed. the brunette was quick to take it from his mother.

he ripped it open, yet being careful not to wreck the beautiful letter. he read aloud the contents of the letter.

pure excitement flowing through his voice as he read. jack bouncing up and down from his spot next to daniel.

once the boy had finished reading, he and jack turned to each other. they were silent for a moment as their eyes were glued open.

"three... two... one..." anna smiled when just as she suspected, the two boys burst out screaming once she hit 'one'.

"alright alright, take your screaming to the park." daniel's mother joked, ushering them out the house and down the street toward the park.

"dani this is amazing! oh my gosh! can we read it again?" jack begged as they sat on the swings.

"dear mr. seavey, we are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry!" daniel re-read.

"what house do you believe i'd be in?" daniel wondered.

"hm... gryffindor, like your mum." jack smiled, "and what house do you reckon i'd be in?" he asked back. "definitely not ravenclaw." daniel snickered. "hey!"

"i believe you would be in... either hufflepuff or gryffindor like your dad." daniel told him, "sydnie's a hufflepuff. i'd love to be in the same house as her."

he and jack kept giggling and screaming over the letter.

now all that's left is for jack to turn eleven and get his very own letter.
