the stomach pains were getting worse. but zach did his damn best to cover it. no way did he want his friends to worry. he was waiting for professor lupin to find something. anything that could help him understand what is happening.

he sat in the great hall with the other seven. it was study hall. but there was little to no studying happening between the eight friends. zach sat on top the table, his feet on the bench seating where you are supposed to sit.

zach and corbyn were in a debate about muggle currency making more sense compared to wizarding currency. "it's way more expensive! 10 pounds is only 5 galleons!" corbyn argued. "oh really corbyn, only 5 galleons." christina teased him. "well it's true!"

"i still want to know who it was that diggory kissed! i'm dying here!" kay spoke up, sighing dramatically. "right! whoever it is, they're so lucky! he's so dreamy!" zach agreed with her.

and as if it had been timed, jack and draco appeared. "oh he's so dreamy!" draco mocked the boy. "how's the little pixie doing today? huh? all happy and glittery?" jack taunted him. daniel was pissed.

he stood up angrily, "shut it avery." he said through gritted teeth. "ooh, seavey's got some sass." jack smirked. "you know, maybe you're a pixie too. huh? spreading your rainbows and glitter along with this fairy." he pointed to zach. as if daniel's wasn't already infuriated, he definitely was now. stepping closer to jack when he spoke again. "oh you little–"

"jack, draco. your comments will cost slytherin twenty points." professor lupin's voice came from behind them. zach turned around to see the professor standing there sternly. "twenty? really?" draco scoffed. "twenty from each of you."

"now i expect you to never use those words toward other students again." he said to the slytherins. "zach, will you come with me please?" the hufflepuff nodded, grabbing his stuff and following after the professor. "bye guys, i'll see you later." he waved to his friends.

once the hufflepuff and the professor were far enough away, he started talking. "i believe i have figured out what you are experiencing. only you may have to miss classes for a little while." zach's eyes widened, "really?" the professor nodded, "we'll talk more in my office, come on."

as they neared the classroom zach spoke up again. "thank you for standing up for me professor." he grinned, "of course zach. you're a good kid, you shouldn't hear that from people who don't deserve your time." the professor told the student.

"if i'm being honest, you're the closest thing of a proper father figure i have. my father... well, i told you about him." zach bit his lip sadly. "well i hope you know i am always here for you to talk alright?" the student nodded, stepping inside the office now.

"now, i believe you may be experiencing something quite similar to what i experience." professor lupin began, closing the door behind them. "are you saying i'm a werewolf professor?"

lupin chuckled, "oh no, don't you worry. and please, when it's just the two of us you don't need to call me professor." zach thought for a moment, "then what do i call you? mr. moon?" he teased lightly.

little did he know how much he reminded his professor of his friends. of sirius and james and peter. "how about you just call me remus. it is my name after all." zach's eyes widened. "it's like you were destined to be a werewolf!" he giggled.

"the name remus is from a roman mythology story. i learned about it back at my old school. remus and his brother romulus were raised by wolves. and your last name, oh my god! lupin comes from the latin word lupus which means wolf!" zach exclaimed. "you are quite the smart one."

the student giggled again, smiling at his professor. "now, what i believe you are feeling is the start of your own transformations. into what i'm not quite sure yet, but it is not a werewolf. you need to have been bitten for that."
