To say I was unprepared for Greene's glove device, was an understatement. After he clicked the button on his thumb, he got more muscular, and he began to float off the ground.
"I may not have been able to gather many of their powers, but the three I have should be sufficient enough. You'll be my first test subjects, this one is Superman's powers." He finished off his speech by speeding towards me and landing a solid punch in my stomach. I went flying into the wall and heard a crack. Not only was the wall severely damaged but I think he may have bruised my rib, the adrenaline in my system was able to push away the pain for the moment for me to be able to fight. The other three prepared themselves, they still had their built up immunity from continuously fighting during sparring practice and from their individual fights. I was not so lucky, but they came to my aid, Robin helping me get up.
"This fight is going to be harder than I had expected," I murmur to myself as I stand up. I take out the escrima sticks from my belt sides, readying myself for the battle that was sure to ensue. We had to get the gloves either off his hands or disable them, none of us was especially powered, so we just had to rely on our skills. Robin and I dove apart as Greene came in again for another punch.
Greene continued to try and attack us, always diving to try and grab us or knock us back, suddenly his eyes began to turn a burning red. I was knocked to the side as Nightwing tackled me, right where I had been standing was now a charred mark from the laser vision. Nightwing and I continued to dodge as beam after beam of fiery red eye lasers came flying in our direction. Greene yelled in frustration and lowered himself to the floor as he pressed the button on his thumb to turn off his power. Immediately after though he pressed the button on the tip of his pointer finger. Unsure of who's power had been mimicked for this power we all prepared ourselves, when he suddenly fell through the floor as his skin tone changed. I had been close to to wall up until a foot was slammed into my back, and I skidded across the floor. Where is he, the floor, no, left, right, no, from above?
"Yes" Greene flew down at me through the ceiling, I was able to dive out of the way. Preoccupied with evading Greene, I didn't hear the conversation between the three heroes.
"Is it just me or is he specifically going after Wolf?" Robin murmured to Artemis who stood next to them.
"Why would he do that, we're more of a threat to him than she is" she replied uncertainly.
"You guys forget, he wants to kidnap all of us, and our only way out is her being able to conjure a portal home. As soon as she's out of the game, we're trapped" the most experienced hero responded before jumping into the fray.
He yanked Wolf away after she suffered another hit, she was now covered in cuts and bruises. Definitely the worst off between the four of them. She smiled sheepishly wiping the blood from her mouth, as he pulled her to a corner while the other two distracted Greene.
"Sorry, it seems I've become pretty useless at this point."
"It's alright, we should take more responsibility in the fight, you're basically a civilian in this state. I don't think you can take many more hits," I tried to stand up, but quickly sat back down as the room span "sit out for a while until you feel a bit better, let the heroes handle this. It's our job to protect the defenceless"he smirked before rejoining his friends in battle. He was right, I didn't want to sit out, but my condition said I had to go on the side for now.
Leaning against the wall, I envisioned if I had chosen a different path when I first entered that universe. I was fairly oblivious at that time, but I needed answers quick and the villains were the shortest route. I smiled grimly staring at my watch, it has been officially a year since I met everyone. Too bad my birthday wasn't exactly what I had hoped it to be. Hopefully it will end better than it had started.
I looked up, seeing the scientists who had been trapped in the corner, were now making their way towards the staircase. Couldn't have them leaving the party so soon, it would definitely make my job harder in the end. Stumbling to a standing position I made my way across the room using the wall as my crutch. Once I reached the door, I was not feeling as terrible as before. I blocked the door, motioning for the workers to go back to where they were, they shakily returned to sitting in the corner. I smirked, motioning that I would keep an eye on them, I rejoined my final battle. Hopefully the other groups were doing a lot better than we were. Now the fight was in our favour, as the three heroes and I coordinated around each other as if we had always fought together.
Weaving in and out of each other, the hits were relentless against Greene as he slowly became more frustrated. Artemis generally kept at a distance, firing arrows to keep his contained while Nightwing, Robin and I were the main force, always landing a hit, as we danced around the infuriated man. It became a game as, Robin and I would hit on either side and Nightwing who was constantly on the move to avoid the fists flying at him would strike him with his escrima sticks. Suddenly, he phase shifted and flew away from us, quickly clicking his middle finger, we readied for a new power to emerge, when I was roughly pushed to the side by Nightwing.
Unaware of what had just transpired, I turned around to find Greene was no longer in the corner but by the staircase. A blur sped towards me and I understood fast enough to move. The third power he had managed to copy, was the Flash's super-speed. Thankfully the two senior heroes were well versed in speedsters, but I was not entirely prepared for the speed displayed. Artemis and Nightwing mainly were the striking force, while Robin and myself provided backup.
Momentarily distracted as I heard a scuffle in the staircase, I failed to hear the warning called out to me. I was swept off my feet and dragged to the front of the group as the rest of Young Justice stumbled in through the door. The three heroes backed up as Greene held a knife to my throat.
"Why don't we give them a little show Kigo?" Greene called out, my brows furrowed in confusion at his question.
He ripped off my mask revealing my face without the glamour, closing my eyes and turning my face. He gripped my hair tightly.
"Oh don't think I didn't do research on you Kigo. I found your identity from your twelve years of childhood spent here, but I'm sure they don't know about your true identity hmm."
He ripped off the brown wig, as my blonde hair tumbled around my face he yanked my chin to face the heroes. My eyes opened, I had hoped this wouldn't happen. Gasps of recognition were released by the heroes in front of me.
